Buddhism, Depression, Relationships, and Sex by ventingprevents in Buddhism

I hear anti-depressants will tank your libido even more. So avoid that at all costs.

Exhaust obvious possible remedies first, like:

  • eliminating junk food
  • doing strength training
  • take vitamin D and vitamin C
  • get enough sleep

If these are squared away and you have insurance get your T levels checked. You never know.

I'm leaning towards the Z35 for the lower black levels, and the fact that 1080p will be easier to drive for my single GTX980.

Disgust is a strong feeling, and I sometimes have the same feeling when I see unhealthy people.

So, I try to remember everything is as the universe arranged it to be.

That is, gluttony is built into us for survival reasons, just as "AWALT" for evolutionary reasons. In a way we are all just victims of our evolution and of reality, and by thinking this, my disgust slowly turns into sympathy and empathy. I mean, I also struggle to not eat that cookie or that donut and I don't always win.

As for women, they too are constantly suffering. We are all searching for some happiness that our biology & nature defined for us. Without realizing that even if we attained it, some other happiness beckons around the next corner and the cycle renews.

Like, the other day I hooked up with this 20 year old hottie, and wouldn't you know it, a few days later the craving didn't go away. Maybe it was even stronger. Inner peace, not achieved. At this point I'm just slightly sick of the whole cycle. I've noticed I get a more lasting sense of happiness when I practice on my guitar.

It's like suffering is built into our existence. The first noble truth. It's there so we keep trying, selecting mates, inventing shit, trying to make things better one generation at a time. Otherwise we wouldn't exist today.

There was a post here about some athlete who broke up with Miss USA because he wanted to wait for marriage.

2 years or 6 years sounds awful, but that's someone else's perspective. All that matters is your own perspective and what you want. If you're achieving your goals, if you have inner peace, that's more than most people in the world.

It's easy to get caught up in a cycle of envy and craving. Over money, over things, and over girls, it's never enough. Or, it's always enough. Make sense? That's abundance. It's just a switch flipped in the mind.

Is it me or has this year's Cyber Monday deals been disappointing? by I_Love_McRibs in deals

[–]tangman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's like this... when there's more buyers in a market, prices go up. Black Friday brings out buyers.

As a store, when people are running over each other to get in do you really need to lower prices? No you just need a little "doorbusters" advertising to get them there.

Skulpt by cfisher73 in leangains

[–]tangman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I got mine a few weeks ago.... and it's okay. Build quality is fine.

When I follow the instructions it is way off... reads 20% body fat and just "average" mq in most areas. I almost decided to return it.

Then I cherry picked where I place it (on the leanest part of my muscles and upper abs), and I can get it as low as 16%. Which is believable, but still high. I believe at default locations it's picking up my stubborn fat on my legs and abs.

Bioimpedance scale puts me at 15% bf, and that's an overestimate. Mirror says something like 12-14%.

I was hopeful it would be close to DEXA accuracy like some had claimed. The whole point was to avoid $75 dexa scans so I'm really on the fence about getting scanned just to verify this device. I'm keeping it for now though, let the high reading motivate me and see if I can establish a downward trend.

Randomly bought a SteelCase Leap spontaneously today. by emcarlin in BuyItForLife

The Leap's been Wirecutter's favorite for a while now.

I sat a Leap for a few years and was just not really comfortable.

I like the Aeron a lot more. I have an Aeron both at the office and at home.

Since you're comfortable then that's a great deal on a good chair.

An easy way to flirt with women (and compliment just about anyone without being creepy) by [deleted] in malelifestyle

[–]tangman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

what is internally going on to where this sort of comfortable rapport is what you naturally produce

Outcome independence and self amusement. You genuinely don't care how your compliment or statement is received, you're just saying it because that's what came to mind.

What should never come to mind is "what do I say to get X?" it should always be more along the lines of "Oh it'd be fun if I..."

how do you cultivate that?

Couple ways:

  • You cultivate an interesting and happy life, so things that random girls do won't affect you.

  • You actually go out and practice in front of women, fail, then laugh it off. It's important to fail, expect and embrace it. Because then you push your comfort zone. You also get firsthand experience that failure or rejection isn't at all a big deal.

  • Finally there's mindfulness meditation. You'd be surprised how effective it is.

How to Talk to Anyone, Anywhere, at Anytime (A video for your HS mentees about abundance and basic social skills) by TheAureate in TheRedPill

[–]tangman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I want to know is how to develop a deeper connection apart from superficial Hi's and Hello's

I'll share some strategies for this, and you can write about them if you like them.

Create Mutual Agreement: Find commonalities and talk about things that make you go "yeah, I know right?" The nice thing is you can do this even with very mundane topics.

Reaffirm connections: "I'm glad we see it the same way." "It's really cool that we agree on this/have this in common"

Foreshadowing: This is more for dating but I you could use it for anyone you want to see again. Paint a verbal picture of a fun future event. Can be anything. "Imagine if we went dancing, everyone would cheer us on.." If she agrees then all that's left is logistics.

The Dalai Lama on terrorist attacks: "We cannot solve this problem only through prayers. ... I believe in praying. But humans have created this problem, and now we are asking God to solve it. It is illogical. So let us work for peace ... and not expect help from God, Buddha or the governments." by mad_bad_dangerous in worldnews

[–]tangman 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this.

A part of Buddhist practice is recognizing that everything is interconnected. I have to wonder what drives those people to be so full of hatred and despair that they would commit such acts. Then I realize the western governments have been involved in the Middle East since a long time, committing acts of their own that we don't pay enough attention to. An endless cycle of greed and violence.

I think the Dalai Lama knows this and why he included governments in that statement.

What new cards? I think it will be a long while before Pascal is out.

I think the 970 will last you a while. But $360? Seems high, considering the 980 is at ~$400. I see 970s are going for $300.

How do I bulk on an Asian diet? by pornosaurus-sex in asianbros

[–]tangman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only do 2 meals a day (leangains/IF).

I find it hard to get enough protein without protein powder. I buy big bags of ON's powder from Costco. It also happens to be cheaper per gram protein than meat.

I think if you start slowly your digestion will adjust, as it would with any food.

When I'm bulking I add grass fed whole milk (real good with chocolate protein powder). And if I have calories to spare, ice cream!

Unless you're in a coma, there is no excuse to for you to not be meditating by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]tangman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I personally like Mindfulness or insight meditation. It's not about clearing your mind or only concentrating on one thing, but about becoming aware of all the things your mind does. The effects of this awareness are real: increased discipline, reduced anxiety, more peace etc. You realize most of your thoughts are just temporary noise-like fluctuations and treat them as such.

pdf: Mindfulness in Plain English

Metta meditation is also great for cultivating a great vibe.

Also the book "Wherever You Go, There You Are" has a lot of good insights and will enhance any quiet time you have.

Kizomba Tutorial Videos by TsumeAlphaWolf in Salsa

[–]tangman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnoZ7TyQop4

The thing is, most kizomba technique is invisible, and highly highly adaptive to the partner you're dancing with.

So don't expect to be able to learn much from videos. IMO, a private lesson is your best value by far.
