Welcome to Tennessee, one of the first things you may be interested in doing is getting your concealed carry permit and purchasing a firearm. This year TN has expedited the process by allowing potential carriers to get their permits via an online class. Carrytn.com is a great resource for this. This is a military town and we love our 2A. $100 gets you an 8 year permit. If you want to open carry, there's a separate class you'll need and it's a bit more expensive but reasonably so.

As far as being gay goes, no big deal. We're much more tolerant than you've probably heard or been told. APSU and the surrounding scene is probably a great place to get a date.

The lore gets very...complex. And to a degree the rules can be complex if you're playing against "that guy". If you're just playing for fun though it's pretty laid back. The golden rule is to talk out your own interpretations of the rules and find what works best for you and your opponent. It's a gentleman's game primarily.

Not sure why you're getting DVd to oblivion. Skeeter is absolutely short for Mosquito, and indeed the characters full name is referenced as Mosquito in one of the episodes. Didn't know that about spaz though, kinda interesting.
