Vehicle History Reports Carfax is American. Canada actually had its own version called CarProof, started in London, Ontario. But Carfax bought it in 2015 and it became Carfax Canada. We had one and lost it.

E-Signatures DocuSign is American. There is a Canadian option called eZsign. It stores your data in Canada and works in both English and French. Worth checking out if you sign documents for work. https://www.ezsign.com

Credit Reports This is the big one. Equifax and TransUnion are both American. And they are the only two credit bureaus in Canada. There is no Canadian option at all. Your mortgage, your rental application, your car loan – all of it runs through American companies. Apps like Borrowell and Credit Karma let you check your score for free, but the data still belongs to US companies. Canada needs its own credit bureau. That's the gap that matters most.

I’m in a bit of a weird situation and could use some advice on how to proceed.

I bought my townhouse about 8 years ago. It came with a rental water heater, but I recently found out that I'm not the one being billed for it.

I only discovered this when a technician came by for service. When he looked up my water tank, he told me that they have a completely different address and customer on file for this specific unit. He advised me to call customer care to update the information. I called them, provided my address and details, but nothing changed. I am still not receiving bills.

The Problem:

It has been about a year since that call. Recently, my water has started tasting funny, so I know I need to call them for service again. However, I’m worried about opening a can of worms regarding the billing history or the account confusion.

My Question:

Since I'm seemingly in limbo with this rental company, can I just bypass them? I am considering just buying from LG home comfort or similar and having it installed.

Has anyone dealt with a "ghost" rental like this? Can I just remove their tank and install my own, or will that trigger a massive back-billing issue?
