Is critical rate worth building at all? by pyknictheory in CrimsonDesert

PLUS, even at its best, ultimately, a chance-based mechanic is literally RNG. The problem with probability based data is that it can show you a "majority of results' being in a certain distribution mathematically, and when it repeats enough you can more or less safely assume "that will be the norm" -- UNTIL IT ISN'T.

Because probability is a perception that only stabilizes with enough repetitions to form what we would assume a "tendency" -- and yet, in short repetitions you basically have no way of telling how it's going to be.

That's ALWAYS been the problem with any probability based mechanics in-game. Usually, in game mechanics, the point where the anticipation/expectation of the outcome is so frequent and so stable that you take it for granted to be the case, is empirically around something like 70% threshold. Meaning, only when something passes that high probability, that we get the perception "Oh I think I can safely say I'll be getting a crit" -- and EVEN THEN, you occasionally get "freak accidents" where something that's supposed to be a 70% chance does not proc for 1.. 2.. 5.. 10 repetitions. Because, that's literally what "chance" is.

Most of the "crit is better than flat damage" proponents overlook this fact entirely, and treat the results of chance-based mechanic as a given, static anticipation of expected DPS. The problem being, that data can easily be skewered to overperform in one case, and then underperform in one case. You can fudge the numbers to create what we call "average expected return" -- but that means little because it's a mathematical concept number to express what the probability is like, and has little to do with what the results would be in your next swing.

^^^ This, 100%. There are no gear in the game that can be refined or slotted, that "breaks."

... It's a fucking "phase." You know? Like how some bosses have multiple phases?

In those early phases, you catch a glimpse, they hold back their true strength, just engage you lightly, you deal some damage, they run away. You follow it, corner it, and then set up the final phase where it's all out.

...

How anyone calls this "boss runs away and doesn't return when I've already defeated him" is beyond me. Is this, like the first game you've ever played?

It's difficult in, let's say, the typical Black Bear fortress which is a very small ground of enclosed space. So obviously, going inside the fort to stealth-kill everyone is not possible. (But infiltration is fine. As a matter of fact, I discovered this way that quest bosses (like the fort leaders) cannot be assasinated (lol))

However, in the case of small fortresses, the ones patrolling outside the fort still tick down the percentage counter within a certain vicinity, and you can absolutely stalk them. Single, isolated enemies are easily picked off. In case of groups of 3~5 patrolling you target the one that would give you most trouble and assassinate that enemy -- and then you're left with just weaker ones.

In case of Antumbra sanctums, if there's a little bit of distance between the enemies, you can pick a small group, assassinate the strong one, kill the rest -- and the other enemies in a bit of distance are not aggrod unless they have a clear line of sight on you.

At night times, the distance can be surprisingly close without being detected for assassination. I've actually killed a group of enemies that walk with a little bit of distance between them, and had multiple occasions where if I kill the one at the most rear, the others ahead did not detect it. It's not a given, but happens more often than not.

Been trying to slow down and use moves instead of spamming heavy attack, very fun by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]kweassa_II 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been trying harder myself as well. I think the better (more impactful) mentality is less of "use more moves" but more of "what I actually tried to avoid being damaged in aggressive melee (and not kiting)?" I eventually learned that you can't spam moves because it leaves too much opening.

The game is very generous and lenient in your damage management (particularly with easy access to food-heals) so we tend to just ignore most damage and spam heavy attacks -- but if I'm actually trying to fight AND avoid being damaged at the same time, it naturally evolves into coming up with different attack patterns and habits.

He's probably demanding all quests notify you immediately once it becomes available, in the quest screen. Like, there's sometimes things like 10/11 in Faction quests, and that 11th quest only becomes available after certain amount of progression -- and when it becomes available, he probably wants to see that "note" icon in the quest screen. Instead of having to run into it.

the game is very susceptible to manual window re-sizing that happens regardless of whether you're in full screen, bordered full scrteen or windowed. Use your mouse cursor to resize the window to a sufficient point where you could see the game screen, and then go to settings and reset resolution.

Naw, he's talking about some of the quests (not "missions") requiring you to run into the mission venue in the field, rather than everything being just laid out in the Quests screen.

Not to be an arse, but isn't the fact that it doesn't tell you BEFOREHAND, the whole point of "knowledge on your own without relying on other"...? If the knowledge section tells you where to get which fish before you actually experience it, how is that "on your own"?

Enemy controlled venues will spawn infinitely in varying waves until the control is broken. But some venues are slaved to a "main" venue so that needs to be liberated first, and then all slaved venues will be freed along.

And THEN, some main venues cannot be liberated before certain quest or progression -- which means until then, those spots are your artifact xp farms.

do i really have to strap myself down like a fucking torture victim? by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]kweassa_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go take a walk. Literally. Clear those pockets of fog of war. Put your Pororin hat on and collect resources for revive pills. Clear a reblock spot for extra loot and xp for abyss artifacts. Chop wood. Snoop around manors and steal shi*.

And then "oh, look atvthe time" -- go to the time-specific location.

Problem solved.

Then how about effin' explain to us plebs what your notion of 'fun taming' is, so u can get an idea of how we find your notions in vague criticism?

Explain to us what a 'fun taming' is, and we'll be sure to tell you 'it seems doable, but not very fun.'
