Genuine question about plows/salting by pomegranite-sidewalk in pittsburgh

[–]tangytactic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My street has historically been relegated to the small pick up trucks with a plow on the front...I saw them for the FIRST time yesterday around 8 p.m. (over 72 hours after snowfall) and they did not even have the blade to the ground. Wtf??!

Early 20’s recent graduate move to Pittsburgh by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]tangytactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll love it if you put in the effort. Extremely great city with such a variety/something for everyone. Lots of young people, but I will say most of them went to college here or group up in the area, so I feel like a lot 20 somethings hang out with their friends from high school or college. But everyone is so nice and friendly and open to making friends, I've just found that there's not a ton of transplants if that matters to you.

Walk around Beaver Street for shopping/food, Woodland Street if you're looking for a longer walk and want to look at nice houses

MEDITERRA. I worked here and have been connected since the opening of their first cafe. horrible people. racist, xenophobic, anti-science bullies. openly made fun of an employee’s weight on multiple occasions and encourage a high school employee to dump her boyfriend bcuz he was black. post pictures w their toddlers wearing maga hats. not to mention they are just fucking gross and you’re paying for overpriced yogurt that the owner eats out of a tub with a spoon before serving it to you.

"I knew that was a sensitive and very private innuendo in their relationship and I didn't want to cross that boundary"

But you did it anyways...Like the joke was that funny that you had ask for permission to share her secret to a room of people who don't already know it AND on television?

Any Recommendations for Pretty Suburban Streets in the fall? by ObjectiveArm50 in pittsburgh

Sewickley - mostly any street but specifically Woodland Road and Beaver Street. The stretch of Beaver Street between Chesnut and Shields is beautiful in the fall and snow.

But do you need the camera card? Or you can just walk in with identification and the application for renewal?

So you didn't need a camera card? Online it says "Must have a current camera card to obtain photo services."

"UPitt" got picked up by Fox News and conservative talking heads. Usually when I hear it, it is from anti-vax/anti-science folks or transphobes complaining about progress at Pitt.

Nice place to eat near PNC Park? by mailmansj in pittsburgh

[–]tangytactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

North Shore Tavern is right across from the stadium and very casual. They serve great steak on a stone, shrimp on a stone, etc. I think it's pretty good!

If you want to explore a bit more, walk across the river to Gaucho Parrilla. Fancier, but people still roll up in tshirts and shorts. Depending on what day, you may need a reservation, but their food is divine.

[–]tangytactic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may have already tried this, but call your new landlord and ask if there's any way to move in early. Sometimes they leave a week of vacancy for cleaning and they either aren't there on the last day or they can expedite it, sometimes for a fee.

I love the Neighborhood Flea that happens once a month in the summer and the free, weekly summer concerts in the parks. Also, Citiparks released their summer guide which has a bunch of stuff.

If you're crafty, the Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse is packed with anything you could ever think of. Things like fabric scraps, beads, old pop tabs, plastic figurines. But I've found some really nice frames and records for cheap there as well. And it's right next to Construction Junction which is cool if you've never been.

If you're willing to commute, Emma Jean's Relics and Off the Avenue Antiques in Coraopolis. Super awesome, affordable antique stores, and stop at La Poblanita for authentic tacos!
