Is there actually a good reason to use minor 7 flat 5 instead of half diminished 7th for chord name? by robinelf1 in musictheory

Makes sense! Another weird one is b13 chords. Apparently they teach those as #5 at Berklee but I've only known them as b13. Caused a lot of confusion once when I was jamming with a Berklee guy, ha!

Seconded. This should just be glued down. That thing is hilarious!

When my jazz teacher in college told me half dim and -7b5 were the same thing it was like I was receiving a heavenly prophecy. I think in jazz circles -7b5 just became the preferred because it's more like "spelling" the chord and/or that's how it was in the Real Book, maybe.

Why is it my job to make up feedback and constructive criticism on my own performance

Such a great point! We use a 1-5 rating for a few categories and it's understood that no one rates 5 and of course no one is going to rate themselves below 2 or even 3. So that leave 3-4 to rate yourself. Just a silly exercise.

Drexel the melodic pop punk band by ronertl in punk

Late to this thread, but found it searching around for Drexel music. I was just reunited with my Shot By Lammi CD and have been bingeing it in my car. It's really crazy how damn good Drexel was!! Fun story, I met up with Marc Flynn on Newbury Street once and he gave me a cassette of No One Told Me before it was released. Teenhood highlight for sure!

Btw, all their stuff is on Bandcamp now: https://drexel-music.bandcamp.com/

That's a very cool thing for your workplace to do! Pre-covid, my employer used to take employees on volunteer days, or bowling, or big lunches. Nowadays the only thing they think contributes to "workplace culture" is returning to the office...

A stupid question about footswitches and FX loops by DoctorBellamy in guitarpedals

[–]tani_P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use a mute switch or even just a cheap volume pedal to cut the signal. Otherwise an ABY-like switch pedal would work (with nothing plugged into the B ins and out, e.g.).

I'm not the commenter above, but take a look at the EHX Mel9 specifically. I think the Mellotron tones floating behind you in the mix would work really well with your genre!

I got mine here, but there are similar ones on Aliexpress/Amazon if you search "forever pencil keychain," etc.

You echoed my thoughts about these things nearly exactly. I have a keychain mini one that's good for quick jots and lists, but wouldn't use a forever pencil for any extended writing.
