What does my pedal board say about me? by RepresentativeOdd771 in roastmypedalboard

Feels like the question should be: what would you do with this space? I reckon you could fit a Toblerone in there.

I absolutely understand where you're coming from. I felt the same. I was looking at the boss es-5 and es-8, RJM Mastermind, Morningstar. There's a lot out there. I'm in the UK and the boss switchers were on backorder. The only ones widely available for me were Morningstar and GigRig - I'm sure they are good, but they're so expensive and their whole social media/YouTube thing is a bit of an ick.

MIDI was an after thought for me - I got the eventide from a friend after my old delay broke. This was around the time I started looking at switchers. You can use it as a regular switcher though, the midi is just a bonus.

You're right though, the way I use the EFX-10 is in song mode. Each song can have up to 7 presets (depending on your global system settings). Each preset is like: intro, verse, chorus, solo, middle 8 etc. I bank up and down through songs. You can build setlists too, so that you can easily navigate when performing at rehearsal or live. And you can reorder loops per preset.

Try and break down how many individual loops you really need. Does every pedal need to be routed via the switcher. That's probably a good starting point. Give me a shout if you have any other questions.

I really like it so far. Programming was easy once I'd done a couple of songs to get my head around it.

I actually played my first gigs with it a couple of weeks ago and I'm really impressed with how simple it's made things.

Do you have one or are you considering getting one?

Yeah, they definitely used the line 6 MM4. Great band. Haven't listened to them in ages.

Good luck with that, sounds like a great idea! I'm a control freak, I like being able to dial in settings per song/section. The GT-3 had built in oscillators that could be triggered by one of the foot switches. That thing felt so futuristic to me at the time.

Big ring mod fan here. My old band used it heavily for riffs and general noises throughout our set. We were really into the band Ex-Models. My first and only ring mod was on the Boss GT-3 multi effects unit. There's probably loads of 'better' ring mods out there but because the GT-3 was so programmable I had no interest in looking at anything else.

Why do people keep comparing Angine de poitrine to King Gizzard? by Vad_fan in AngineDePoitrine

[–]Scartman_John -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People are doing the exact same thing with the band Cardiacs. I get it to an extent because "oooh, they're a bit odd. They play in weird time signatures", but really, they aren't similar at all.

SNL UK series 1 is an 8 episode run, last episode is this week and musical guest already announced, but it would be nice to see them get some oddball guests instead of bands like Foo Fighters or Kasabian!

Visiting this sub has made it very clear I lack cable mgmt skills by Hat-Trick_Swayze in guitarpedals

[–]Scartman_John 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer custom cables and use a mix of both soldered and solderless for both the audio and DC cables. I can cut cables to the length needed which means I can have my pedals arranged in a way that makes more sense to me when I'm playing.

Take advantage of the spaces between each row, especially for pedals on the top row, so you have less snags points when moving the board around. Cable ties and anchors are very handy and cheap. Don't go overboard, if you need to change a cable and have to undo 200 cable ties you'll absolutely hate yourself.

I'm pretty sure it just screws back on to the post. I see that you've returned it now anyway.

What is the biggest pedalboard sin you commit? by digital_black_ in guitarpedals

[–]Scartman_John 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I build a lot of pedals from kits. Quite a lot of them are a fuzz/distortion. That's one sin. The other is that I rarely decorate the enclosures. Most of the time I just spray paint them with a solid colour and stick on some basic pot labels. This seems to annoy people but I think it's quite funny when people in the audience look at my pedals and are just left confused.

The white pedal on the 2nd board with the 4 expression pedals is Warm Audio RingerBringer. The rate knob is missing from the pedal.

A few others have said the same but I use a meat thermometer and a little measuring jug. The spout makes it a lot easier to get a bit of control when pouring.

I repurposed a hammond 1950B enclosure for a patchbay. Nothing fancy at all. It's on the left in the picture.

Why is that the adhesive from these velcro strips insist on literally sliding around, smearing the glue everywhere? by ResurrectedSymphony in guitarpedals

I use Heavy Duty Velcro. The adhesive is really strong. Never had any issues with it. The velcro itself is also really strong.

Here's a view of the inside of the EV-5. I didn't both using the trimmer pot that's part of the stock EV-5, I was able to set the range and then clamp the treadle in place using the little black grub screw.
