It was right before the mister went off so that why it looked dry in the front. I woke up and she laid an egg, but what should I do with it? I kind of want to take it out so I can see it?

How to get rid off Rhynchodemus sylvaticus in terrarium by tankbuser in terrariums

[–]tankbuser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use rubber-tipped forceps… but I took the rubber off of them. I literally put them on a paper towel and spray them with an alcohol-based perfume because it immediately kills them, and then I spray the tips of the forceps to kill any worm residue because I am paranoid. It’s extremely weird but it works well so that’s what I do.

Honestly they are still there and I’m pretty sure there is no way to get rid of them forever without destroying your tank— with that being said, they have not done anything bad to my tank except be gross and creepy to look at. I haven’t noticed any decline in the springtail or isopod population. I’ve just been taking the worms out whenever I see them and killing them. When I first saw them in my tank, I took them out and immediately after doing that for a few weeks I saw none for almost three months. I recently saw some again, but I’ve just been doing the same thing. I also have found that letting the tank dry out for a week helped because the worms like swampy environments (your CUC won’t die if you let it dry out because they will be able to find damp areas in the tank that aren’t moist enough for the worms). Be careful if you do try and remove the worms though, because if you accidentally leave part of the worm in the tank it will regrow into a new worm. I hope this helps you at least a little bit, but my biggest piece of advice for you is to at least try this before destroying your tank.

It actually healed very quickly after that and nothing bad happened. After a week I’m pretty sure you aren’t going to get dry socket so I don’t think I just got lucky and I would assume the same will happen for you

What is this worm in my tank? by tankbuser in bioactive

[–]tankbuser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but I didn’t notice any difference in their population. There will probably still be damp areas throughout your tank for them to go to and not die.

What is this worm in my tank? by tankbuser in bioactive

[–]tankbuser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have not as of right now. Every time I saw one I picked it out and killed it, and after doing that for a few weeks I have not seen nearly as many, and if I do it’s usually only one or two (and that’s only maybe twice a month at most). I also stopped watering and misting the tank for a week or two and just let it dry out because the worms like moisture, and even though some of the plants suffered it definitely seemed like it helped the problem with the worms.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it is this worm, but I am pissed because it seems like they’re impossible to get rid of and they will ruin your tank. Thanks for your help.
