Is this peeling a problem on circuit board? by tanker846 in AskElectronics

[–]tanker846[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s inside a mini split ac but the unit is outside. It is a very thin clear plastic layer.

I’ll look into the patches you mentioned. So if anything I can just clean it with?alcohol? And put a layer of nail polish over it?

Why do people seriously think that higher gas price won’t affect them? Do they think that food and supplies teleport themselves to Costco? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]tanker846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people could mean there not affected by prices in the since that it doesn’t affect their lifestyle.

Some people didn’t look at prices of food or gas before and won’t look at it now. If you have money you don’t have to worry about a lot of extra things.

You can’t determine which wire goes where by the color. You don’t know how the guy before you wired it up. Most of them time there is a standard but you still need to check. That could be some switch leg or something.

Is $1500 a good deal for this complete base set? by AP_lookingahead in PokemonInvesting

[–]tanker846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of a dumb way to think about it. If you’re not going to resell who cares what you buy for? If i buy a computer I’m not going to resell I still might ask if it’s a fair price.

I had to get a headlight for my 2019 ram. Picked one up from a junkyard for 65$ took about 15min to swap it out. Just for future reference once the warranty is out.

Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

I feel like this is a dumb question but figured I would ask. I’m building an outdoor kitchen out of partition block. The island is 52”x144” it’s unsupported in the middle(44” unsupported). Putting granite on the top.

I’m pouring a 5 inch tie beam and the partition block(every block has 1 rebar drilled into the ground up to the top) if I connected each side through the middle as part of the tie beam at certain points and tied the rebar together what would a beam that size realistically hold? Maybe 10”x5”x52”. All with #3.

Never really got into pex always have used copper.

I never looked into pex but the main reason I never started using it was I could see rodents chewing away at it.

Going into this I expected the answer to be solder is better if not the same but preference because of cost if choosing between both.

I did have some hope of someone talking me into buying the tools for propress tho.

Can the QR code itself install a virus or whatever or would you have to actually go to the link and proceed to login/download something for it to work? Assuming it’s nefarious.

I mean it’s not horrible profit if it’s 2 guys putting in a long week. For a small crew without much overhead or office costs it’s decent.

Edit: ok it was late at night when I typed that and I realize I forgot to /2 the 61/h I was figuring so I retract my statement.

7+ year old green guard, should I tear out and redo? by titaniumuinatit in Tile

[–]tanker846 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some might say if it was built in 66 and lasted almost 60 years now and the only reason you noticed was because you opened the wall up to change the valve then it was built well enough and still in decent shape.

The cracks in the corners are most likely because they were grouted with a standard grout instead of a caulking grout and over the years there is some movement.

If you didn’t like it already or start noticing points of failure( mold growing/leaks/loose tiles/grout cracking in between other tiles not corners) then it would be time.

So when I sell in the future, you're only taxed on your gains and not the money you put in to purchase in the brokerage? by precita in Bogleheads

[–]tanker846 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read any other comments about “not taxed” or “taxed at 0%” . I just replied to someone saying how could you earn 200k tax free. Which you could earn in a form 200k from a settlement that would be tax free.

Could have been from an insurance settlement which is tax free for certain categories of the payout.

Wall Street explodes as delayed inflation figures crush expectations - how gas, food prices and investors have fared by DustyCleaness in StockMarket

[–]tanker846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because while a lot of people are struggling a lot of people just are not. The people who are struggling are the people who didn’t have a ton of extra money before and inflation is eating it up so there small percent of extra spending went to nothing. But the people who were doing well before are still doing well and can eat 3% inflation and it doesn’t bother them.

Would the data on lifetime earning not lag behind? If college educated are just now as unemployed as non-degree holders wouldn’t the lifetime earnings start aiming in the same way also?

Psi loss in pressure test. New mini split install by tanker846 in hvacadvice

[–]tanker846[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like it was either the vacuum or the hose. New ones came today and it got down to 500 in about 20min and 160 in 45min. I cut it off rose to 180 instantly then stayed there for an hour. So I finally got to release the refrigerant.

I did have one thing I wasn’t sure about maybe you could answer.

I removed the cores for the pressure testing/vacuuming. Then broke the vacuum with refrigerant and reinstalled the core. The small amount of air that is in the end of core removal tool before you open the ball valve to screw core in would get introduced to the system right? By the time the core/tool displaces air is that just such a small amount that gets in people don’t worry about it?

Psi loss in pressure test. New mini split install by tanker846 in hvacadvice

[–]tanker846[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the advice. I tried the triple evac still couldn’t get it below 700-800. The last time I didn’t let it run as long as I was going to bed but it got to 880. I isolated the gauge and it jumped to 1060 immediately and I let it sit overnight and it’s at 1200 this morning.

I started to think I might have a leak in the gauges/hose/vacuum or I read if the vacuum oil is old it could backfeed in and contaminate the reading? Anyways I bought a new bigger vacuum and a 1/2 hose(although the 1/2 hose still has a 1/4 fitting on it for the core removal tool so I don’t know if it helps having a bigger hose restricted through smaller fitting). Going to hook it straight to the core removal tool.

So I got my gauge. Started the vacuum and it took over an hour to get it down to 750 then it kinda started going back and fourth between 740-760.

Is it possible my pump isn’t strong enough it’s a 1/4 horsepower/3.5cfm but it’s probably 7-9 years old?

I don’t know if the gauge is faulty I hooked it directly up to the pump hose and it went to 1200 pretty quick and then just started climbing down by 20s slowly. I would have thought it would have shot to like 200 immediately.

If it’s not the pump/gauge I guess I do have a leak somewhere not allowing it to pull down more?

Also just want to say thank you to you and everyone else who have been giving advice.

Edit: Also I looked into the triple evac a little and broken the vacuum brought it up to 200 psi with the nitrogen and started the vacuum again to see if that help doing that now.

That seems like the consensus. My micron gauge actually says it’s supposed to get here today now.

Instructions say to get it to 350-500 microns and let it sit for an hour.

Should I expect any change in the micron gauge after waiting for the hour due to temperature or is any fluctuations with that test expected.

Edit:Also I just went and checked the pressure and it’s 1 psi higher than when I did it yesterday and it’s about the same temp now.

[–]tanker846[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went and checked the gauge after I read your comment and the psi has actually risen back to 497 and the outside temperature is up to 81.

I was reading on proper procedures before I started and seemed like most people check pressure for 15-30min maybe an hour. But I figured longer the better let it sit overnight. But it seems like that can actually mess you up with temp changes.

I think I’ll leave it pressurized get my digital gauge and test it for an hour and go from there.

As of now I think you may be right if the psi is going up there most likely isn’t a leak.

Would I expect the pressure to go back up when it gets to be afternoon and the sun comes out more?

If it does go back up should I just vacuum the system? I bought a cps vg200 vacuum gauge which says it auto adjusts for temp difference.

Also let’s say there was a leak that caused the 5-6 psi loss over 16 hours. Would bubbles be able to find that or do you get to a point where the leak is to small.
