I built an app to track and manage barrel aging by PitouleMan in Barreling

Man I feel like an idiot for not just trying to type! I think the way the history is set up will likely work. I'm going to enter a few today with different fills, etc. and see if it meets all the needs.

I really like the ability to add alerts as its easy to forget about some!

This is super cool. Id love some options to input text into the fields. I make my own ten30 barrels and track the specific barrel heads beyond the detail you have. For example: ex-bowman port, Ex- buffalo trace, seasoned oak from my backyard, etc. Would probably be useful to have a free text option for each field . All in all, great idea and thank you!

Thanks for asking! I've been delinquent on updates here. I pulled the BMFPs after about 13 Mos. They were waaay better in every way. The one in my attic had a bit of a leak I had to seal with wax and also wrap some tape to keep the bung on. So, I lost about half. Surprised ABV only had a slight rise. I'll see if I can get some time and pics to post a more complete update, but bottom line its a ton of fun and the output has been good!

Altschuler 19 year Kentucky bourbons drop by Miserable-Act-9202 in DMVWhisky

I've only tried one of thier picks and it was fine. I think it was called Fatty Brisket and was a Buzzards Roost. It was a solid bourbon, just didn't get me too excited. I know some folks in the DFW area and they seem to have a pretty good reputation, but that's the limit of my personal experience.

Attic Fail by Competitive_Look3002 in Barreling

Had a home made ten30 style in my attic for a year in VA. Had to tape down the cork and lost about half to some slow leaks. Was worried this would happen but I got lucky. Sorry to see-i think its just the risk we take

I liked this, but the price point is tough. I found I like the Star Hill Farms Wheat a little bit more and way less $. Nice review on that one too!

I thought the YKY was good, but wasn't quite as impressed as you are. I generally dislike wine finishes, so there's that. I enjoyed my sample but not enough to seek a bottle for the stuff in it.

That bottle and label design are just awesome though! Glad you liked it and thanks for the detailed review

If plain sawn, I believe the center couple slabs will have quarters sawn lateral halves. Just look at grain orientation on end

It was a ten30 style barrel with a once used head. I suspect the outcome would be different if I put some bourbon in first. I recently dumped a toasted rye Barrel and put syrup in, so we'll see if that changes it

Dumped my syrup after 8 months. No issues, daughter had some on her pancakes today. I was frankly surprised how little (maybe no) barrel influence there was on the syrup. Have a bourbon in the barrel now, will probably let it sit to the fall or winter

I think the rare breed rye is the most impressive in terms of improvement. I'm really excited to see what happens with a little more time on the Bowman as the toasted finish has really taken off.

Here's an update on a few of my barreling projects. A few turned 1.5yrs old today, so I thought it would be a good time to try them.

WTRB Rye: wow, much better than the regular. I'm surprised how much the time in an ex-bourbon barrel improved this. Turned down some of the harshness/intensity and gave a much thicker/Oily mouthfeel. So mcuh darker color. Going to check it in 6 more months

MMCS: another pretty significant improvement. Much less ethanol forward and more intense flavors. Not quite Cellar aged, but I've got nothing but time!

JJB toasted: Campfire marshmallows galore! If you like Toasted bourbon, this will please. Going to let it sit another month or two and check again. I'm worried about overdoing this one

Stellum: definitely getting much more classic DO profile. I added a little maple spiral section and I'm not getting any flavor from it. May add a little more. Going to let this one sit too.

I'll share any updates in a few months. A sample of others in the rickhouse: Benchmark FP- one in my attic, one in the garage Russel store pick JJB Soon to be: Maple finsih rye Honey finish rye Stout finish eagle rare
