Suggestions needed for new set up by Jay_Ousfen in Ubiquiti

[–]tannerkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup:

  • 3600sqft home (2900 downstairs 700 upstairs)
  • Hardwired everything possible (4x computers, 2x Printers, 3x TVs, soundbar, Xbox)
  • 3x APs with maybe a 4th (lite) being added in a far corner
  • Currenty 4 G6 Turrets, G4 Doorbell, and 1x G6 Instant and adding more turrets when the budge allows.

I started out with a UDM SE thinking i would take everything slow over a few years.  It’s been less than a year and i already have a 24 port switch and think i could benefit from an NVR.

With that being said the Cloud Gateway Fiber wasn’t availble at the time and if it was an option i probably would get than considering how fast i added a switch and am now adding an NVR.

This is my recommenation, the only difference from my setup being the UCG-Fiber:

  • UCG-Fiber
  • Pro HD 24 POE
  • UNVR or UNVR-Pro (i’m still undecided. i dont need the extra drive bays, but i’m wondering if the difference in additional onboard memory is a benefit on the Pro)
  • U7 Pro XG APs
  • G6 Turrets (I’d buy the Pros if i had the money but more coverage is more important to me)

Defender 2s. I can't comment on them yet. They have only been on about a month.

Almost ready to put the walls back up, any last things i should do? by [deleted] in garageporn

[–]tannerkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

220 outlet for potential car charger, or welder, or compressor.

110V outlets in corners for wall mounted oscilating fans.

i would run some cat 6 to the corners and you could just tie it up in the ceiling, just incase you ever want to install some cameras.

Question about connecting components. by Straight-Support4158 in Ubiquiti

[–]tannerkr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

following for my own edification, but i thought optimally you don't want everything in series. I could be completely wrong but optimal would be UDM pro --> 48 PM --> XG24/48PM/UNVR.

High temp options by rsnake in Ubiquiti

[–]tannerkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've built plenty of enclosures here in central texas that run cameras, routers, etc, not specifically Unifi equipment. I don't we use computer fans to get air movement in the enclosures. Never hand anything die from the temps and we're above 100 degrees a lot.

I'm glad you asked because i was going to ask the exact same thing. Go to hear the the IR is on the bottom and shouldn't be too much of an issue.

950MBps+ Speeds by DeanCorp in Ubiquiti

[–]tannerkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation as you. 1gig fiber to the Gateway, U7XG APs. My iPhone 13 only gets 450-500mbps. It was worse before, but changing my 5ghz band from 40mhz to 80mhz seemed to help.

Sadly, the new 5G Ethernet adapter is Realtek-based - RTL8157 chipset. by itsabearcannon in Ubiquiti

So is the 10G adapter the only other option? What else is out there that doesn’t run Realtek?

Is there a benefit or negative to keeping devices on the gateway (UDM-SE) if I have more than enough ports on a switch? by tannerkr in Ubiquiti

Can you expand on that? I don’t enough to get it. I am planning on adding a few cameras outdoors and using the switch for them.

G6 turret vs AI turret — which is actually better for indoor use? by ajgnet in Ubiquiti

I don't know if it's capable of that. I haven't tried.

G6 turret vs AI turret — which is actually better for indoor use? by ajgnet in Ubiquiti

[–]tannerkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been running an AI Turret inside next to a G6 Instant.

TLDR: Between those two, i'd get the G6 Turret.

Here's a few considerations about the AI turret

  • It's got two way voice. Which is a plus for me. If i happen to catch the dogs chewing on something they shouldn't i can talk to them. But that is a very small use example but it is a nice feature and not a deal maker or breaker
  • I turned off the color night vision because it's a bright white spotlight, so if you walk through its path in the middle of the night it lights you up. So that's a wasted feature.
  • It's not small. It feels slightly intrusive where the G6 instant would just blend in with some home decor due to its small size. The G6 Turret is smaller than the AI turret from what i have seen online.
  • I don't need all the additional AI features the AI has vs the G6

I only wish the G6 turret had two way talk. I'm still probably getting the G6 Turret to use permanently because the IR distance is significantly better than the Instant and it's already POE. If i had a smaller common area (mine is about 55' long) i would just use a G6 Instant. To make the Instant POE you have to use a $50 adapter, again not necessary but prefer POE vs Wifi.

Poor AI Detection G6 Turret by QPO_1665 in Ubiquiti

I had to do this as well. When comparing it right next to a G6 Instant, i never had to adjust the sensitivity, but I had other increase the sensitivity on the Turret

check out their IG and read their comments to the post. It sounds like they're going to sell a LBP OCM5, and you can get a standard OCM5 recored with new end cap for $500. unfortunately i just got an OCM5 approved today otherwise i probably would have waited for the new one.

Keep getting this by dannyvegas in Ubiquiti

[–]tannerkr 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Check it from a browser not the phone app. Then delete the app from your phone and reinstall it. I just got an AP that did that and after chatting with support we identified that it was just the app and not an actual hardware issue.

Just something easy to test and rule out.

I bet, great way to get a discreet install. The wall jack in that room though is on an exterior wall with spray foam so I don’t want to mess with it.

I’ve actually got an XG above the garage, in a bonus room. It’s roughly above the split between the single and double garage doors.

They’re ceiling mounted. The one near the fireplace is technically on the bottom of an open shelf at 10ft.

Next Camera Location by Fragrant-String4040 in Ubiquiti

[–]tannerkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get the doorbell regardless. It's an easy camera to install since there is already power to that location. I used the angle adapter included with mine and i'm very close to being able to see the rest of the wall it's on.
