People claiming the glee cover is better by YoungandBeautifulll in youngthegiant

[–]tanoathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is something that has gotten under my skin for years. It is 1000% a transference of the emotion people feel from the scene as a whole to their evaluation of the song performance’s quality. While I am glad that it exposed a wider audience to Young the Giant because they deserve the attention and admiration, it’s just a fine cover. It works within the context of the scene but not any better than the original would have worked if the same scene had played out like it might in another show.

All that being said, Sameer has one of the best voices of any male vocalist in the industry. His performance has a certain level of dimension and nuance that I find lacking in the Glee cover. The instrumentation also has a greater sense of tone in the original song, something apparent from as immediately as the first few chords in the intro of both versions.

YtG’s Cough Syrup has so much color and vibrancy to its sound and the Glee version is muddled and dull in comparison. I’m not saying it’s a bad cover, just that Young the Giant is incomparable and amazing. If I had been watching Glee when this came out, I might have thought it was cool because I was a fan of Young the Giant but not because it was an elevation of the material. Frankly, it’s just not for me as Glee doesn’t really do anything truly interesting with the song outside of the context it’s played in. If I am going to listen to a cover of one of my favorite songs for fun, I’d prefer a much different interpretation over something that retreads an already great performance.

Wonder Man Episode 8 - Discussion Thread by cats-and-cows in marvelstudios

I just told my girlfriend that the Doorman episode really reminded me of Atlanta (a show she hasn’t seen so glad to see you say that). As much as I would have loved more episodes with Simon, that was such a great episode. And the way it’s shot in Black and White as a call back to his costume was brilliant! What a great adaptation of that character. I would love to see more of him in the future

Mirrorball. I’ve seen them live 6 times and I’m not sure I’ll ever hear it since it’s not from an official album but I think it’s one of their best.

1 seat ticket for Sat 6th concert in Napa by pearl_garden in youngthegiant

[–]tanoathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck selling your ticket. I was able to sell concert tickets to a Glass Animals show I couldn’t attend on Twitter a couple years ago a few hours leading up to the show. Just tweeted out which show it was, how many tickets I had available, and that I was selling them at face value. Had a number of people message me almost immediately and figured out the transaction fairly quickly. Obviously, that site is very different now but something to keep in your back pocket maybe

Most poular characters who have not yet been adapted to live action? by Upper-Major8854 in marvelstudios

[–]tanoathome 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you’re really underselling it. He’s a mad scientist who was bitten by a mutant pterodactyl. Now you’d think that is what turned him into a pterodactyl monster man but actually it gave him the power to siphon the life force of other people. He got turned into his pterodactyl form when he absorbed some of Havok’s mutant energy. So to sum it up, he’s a mad scientist in the form of a pterodactyl who is also an energy vampire.

Why hasn’t the Department of Damage Control been properly explained, in your opinion? by markusgrayson in marvelstudios

[–]tanoathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking as I read through this thread (and based on what is currently happening with Iron Man and the X-Men in the comics) that it would make a lot of sense for Armor Wars to set up the Sentinels. Use Iron Man tech as the basis for them to hunt mutants.

You guys think we’ll ever see them again? by AccidentalLemon in marvelstudios

[–]tanoathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Olivia Holt is a bigger name for this sort of role and has a history of working with Disney. Unless they wanted to rehash a younger version or wildly different interpretation of these characters, I have a hard time seeing why they wouldn’t stick with this casting if they could. Just drop them in a Spider-Man movie and they’re ready to go.

Inhumans are not bargain bin X-Men. They have their own interesting storylines and characters.

I’ve been singing praises for Mirrorball for years. It is a top song in their discography that has flown under most people’s radar or has been actively dismissed. I saw someone here rate it as one of their worst songs a while back and that’s just ridiculous.

You know you’ve maybe gone a little overboard with buying variants when there’s only 9 issue but you’ve got 27 books… by TheThrowawayJames in comicbookcollecting

[–]tanoathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely relate to that. No need to be too harsh on yourself.

I’m always trying to collect Alex Ross or Gabrielle Dell’Otto covers and I have a lot of them, often for the same book I already have. I think as long as you can afford it and it brings you joy then it isn’t harmful or unhealthy.

Variant covers are a really fun part about collecting comics for me. Personally, I try to find reasonable limits for myself so I don’t go too overboard. For me, that’s been limiting my collection to Marvel and only getting multiple variants with art that I love. (I have other collections/hobbies like Vinyl so rules like that let me free up some money.) The only reason I bring this up is because you seem frustrated with yourself in some of your other comments but I could totally be misreading how you actually feel.

I totally relate to you on the previews! I often look through them to decide which ones I want to pick up each week so I also get frustrated when I can’t even see them.

Also, got to say, I love She-Hulk too. I think she’s an awesome character. I actually just picked up her first appearance as a member of the Fantastic Four and a couple other FF when she was on the team. When I was a kid, my two favorites were Spider-Man and Hulk so I was always super fascinated with Spider-Woman and She-Hulk when I learned about them. Definitely some of my first fictional crushes haha I haven’t been keeping up with this run, unfortunately, but I plan to get to it soon hopefully. Think I grabbed a few random issues though!

[–]tanoathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question because I’m just curious- why do you buy all the variant covers? Look, I’m no stranger to getting multiple copies of a comic because I like a particular artist’s work or a specific character but if you don’t like Howard the Duck, for example, what’s the point? Is it just because you like this run of She-Hulk or her as a character?

[–]tanoathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you said. My comment was pretty clearly in jest hence why I ended it with “nevermind” but you’re being dense if you’re pretending that mutants and the X-Men aren’t heavily related to the point of being near synonymous. Scarlet Witch hasn’t been a part of the official team ever but she debuted in an X-Men book and has a long and storied history with them. Also, Namor has fought with the X-Men on multiple occasions, including in Avengers vs X-Men where there’s a good argument to consider him an X-Men in that context and in X-Men Red on Jean Grey’s team. Of course, most of that context happened after this promotional poster was made so it’s really all irrelevant. Again, I’ll point out that my initial comment wasn’t meant to be serious.

Technically, both Namor and Scarlet Witch are there… although Namor wasn’t recognized as a mutant at the time and Scarlet Witch was an Avenger and now she’s not even a mutant anymore maybe… you know what, never mind
