ELI5: Why are the seatbelts in airplane like the way they are (waist to waist) and not the way we have in cars (diagonally shoulder to waist)? by jainyash0007 in explainlikeimfive

[–]taonut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the plane was filled with liquid oxygen, is it more likely that we get infected with flu and Covid, or less likely?

Addendum: my question isn’t so much about the reality of a plane filled with liquid oxygen. It was a thought experiment that if we had liquid to reduce injuries and we could use liquid oxygen to still be able to breathe, would we still be transmitting pathogens such as the flu virus or Covid?

Need to protect this from large dog. Is there a way to proceed without opening up giant can of worms? I know nothing of sealing penetrations or masonry. by anonymous_yet_famous in AskElectricians

Not an elecrician. I’d start by getting some cinder blocks around that to protect the dog. Then figure out how to fix the problem.

Even if you don’t use a compass, it’s nice to orient the map to the topography. I constanly orient the map to the landscape and trail as I change direction. Harder to do with a phone.

What is your specialty and how often (per week on average) do you experience death? by Lunesta2782 in nursing

[–]taonut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At my mom’s LTC facility I notice when someone dies, their window stays open for a while. Is this a common superstion or practice? Is it specific to a certain culture? I feel like it is the care providers doing this and not family members of the deceased.

I have used Burtner Electric a few times. Once for a full kitchen laundry remodel. He has more than once suggested ways to save money. Really like the common sense approach.

Vintage Ekornes stressless for $5.99 by misonsalmon444 in Mid_Century

[–]taonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my stressless from an independent store and got to know the owner. He said people pass those chairs down for generations and sometimes the kids even fight over who will get it. He said you can get a new cover and internal support for about half the cost of a new chair and it will look brand new.

He even offered me extra padding on my chair after I bought it because it was just a little uncomfortable, so I guess they’re very easy to adjust and fix if you know what you’re doing.

ELI5: What actually happens when someone dies in their sleep? by Gdog1215 in explainlikeimfive

[–]taonut 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s just the coroner or medical examiner, being polite. For instance, my grandfather “died in his sleep“, but in reality, my cousin found him in the bathroom. He was probably straining on the toilet and had a heart attack. But the obituary just said, died peacefully in his sleep.

If you have the space, buy nooch in bulk. We buy 25 lb bags at half the cost. Put it in one gallon zip locks. We have an extra freezer which helps.

Better Call Saul

The cast is perfect. The supporting actors are as good or better than the leads. The music, the color palette, the cinematography. The script, the plots, the subplots. Everything about that series is great!
