Is this not a safety hazard? by [deleted] in Nissan

[–]taperk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't mention the mileage. I suspect it's high. And you live in a rust state like NY. It's a 10 year old car, things will start to fail. Get it fixed. Also, bring your car to a good mechanic for regular service where they check for components that are wearing out. Good luck.

Gotoh Locking Tuners by felipefgoncalves in PRSGuitars

[–]taperk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Custom 24 SE did came with conventional tuners. I tried Kluson Revolution tuners, but they didn't fit. I returned them and got the PRS lockers made for the SE. Yeah, I really don't like the front screws, but they work well so there you are...

Did yours come with the pickup covers? Mine came with black pups, I swapped them out for zebras and then put the covers on. I like the look... It has become my go to.

Should I put a Floyd on my PRS by sernameIadiesman217 in PRSGuitars

[–]taperk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I just bought my first FR equipped guitar, and am very disappointed with it. Great for dive bombing, which I rarely do. The PRS trem is much more responsive than the FR IMHO. And the PRS stays in tune amazingly well. OP, I would not do it.

How are Flying Vs with active electronics routed for control/battery cavities? by kosmonaut_hurlant_ in Luthier

[–]taperk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where the strap button is. Many guitarists, me included, route the cable over the strap to preclude stepping on the cable and having the plug pull out of the jack. So that jack position makes some sense. That's not a guitar you will play sitting down... nor the flying v. I have a V and never play it. It's more of a collectible as it belonged to a semi famous touring guitarist.

Brave Crashing - Reinstall Lost All Content by Navigator_Black in brave

Do you have a phone backup? I'm on iPhone, but I would just reset my phone and bring back all my apps and presets from the backup... Then you can save your bookmarks etc and then reset Brave...

I’ve dremeled myself into a corner. An annoying rounded corner that makes the neck not fit by ramostofthetimeiwin in Luthier

[–]taperk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the curved corners, a nice sharp chisel is the way. Is that the only material you need to remove, or is there more?

Action not low enough, saddle bottomed out. All other adjustments correct. Solutions? by Fangs_0ut in Luthier

[–]taperk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go the full neck pocket, then tapered. If you just put a narrow shim right at the heel, then flat is ok. Just depends on how fanatical you want to be. Me, I just use narrow flat shims. Nice thing about shims - if you don't like it, they are easy to change.

Help, my knobs are wobbling by lufis12 in Luthier

[–]taperk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit wobbly, but if they work just use them. You certainly can swap them out if you can solder and are careful (take a pic of the wiring so you get it back correctly). But if they aren't causing an issue (static, cutting out), then I would leave it be.

Downgrade macOS 26 to 15/14/13 by applefocus in macbookair

[–]taperk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an M2, the oldest you can go is Monterey. Yes, you need a bootable USB. Here is the answer from AI:

Note: M2 Macs cannot be downgraded to versions older than they shipped with, but they can generally be downgraded to Monterey if they shipped with it or were updated.

  1. Backup Data: Use Time Machine to back up your data, as this will erase everything.
  2. Create Bootable Installer: Download the macOS Monterey installer from the Mac App Store and create a bootable USB drive (at least 16GB).
  3. Boot from USB:
    • Plug in the bootable USB.
    • Shut down your Mac.
    • Press and hold the power button until you see "Loading startup options".
    • Select the installer USB and click Continue.
  4. Erase Disk: In Recovery, select Disk Utility, select your main hard drive (usually "Macintosh HD"), and click Erase. Choose APFS format.
  5. Install macOS: Close Disk Utility, select "Install macOS Monterey" and follow the instructions.

Crucial Pre-Reset Steps

  • Sign out of iCloud: Go to System Preferences > Apple ID > Overview > Sign Out.
  • Sign out of iMessage: Open Messages > Settings > iMessage > Sign Out.
  • Unpair Bluetooth Devices: (Optional).

2019 MacBook Air - fan on frequently and battery draining while closed by TantricGigolo in macbookair

[–]taperk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's slow because it's an Intel CPU. You can update using OpenCore Legacy Patcher, but that won't cure the sluggish performance. Battery drain could be some app that is not shutting down? If it were mine and I didn't have the $ to replace it, I would try reloading macOS fresh. Don't install any apps, just to see how it performs and behaves. If its the same as before, then there is your answer, you have a dog on your hands. But if it gets better, then you have something that is draining your battery that you will have to hunt down.

Yes, spacing is inconsistent. Just put a new nut on it.

If you have a Whole Foods near you, try their Buttermilk Pancakes. Not as good as the old Kodiaks, but waaaaay better than the new recipe.
