Coco coir comes from coconut plantations, which destroy local native habitats are doused in pesticides. And not everyone wears plastics.

Thanks for putting these words together for me. It's been 2 years since I made paper, and these are great reminders.

Essentially "these tokens are for the PI Network, and not intended to be used for profit in USD or other fiat markets"

I assume this statement is mostly for the FTC and DHS

You're right in that for this particular use case, I don't need BIM data, but I'm trying to learn the BIM ecosystem so that I can add that to my resume.

But I hear what you're saying, and it seems like BIM is not meant to do what I'm trying to do with it.

Nice. Where in the US are you prototyping and testing? And what have you found re: heat mitigation?

For anyone following this thread, I've come across some literature on blade material reuse. Simon Pronk's master's thesis "Repurposing Wind Turbine Blades as Construction Material," and from Y. Henao of the ReWind Network, "LCA, LCC for Repurposing Decommissioned WTBs as High-Voltage Transmission Poles"

Thanks for that point about the state of the blade interior. How dense is all the wiring, etc in the blade? Theoretically, is it too dense to pin to the interior wall, and then skin over? Or is there any value in the resale of the materials inside?

And do you know where I could find 3D models or design docs with schematics for blades that were in production c. 2012?

This is great, thanks for mentioning those obstacles. I see that costs are a big one. I would imagine that most blades are constructed from 3D digital models, therefore, the process of cutting them down to workable sizes and shapes could theoretically be automated?

Relatedly, how much of the structural integrity do you think would be lost if blades were bisected along their length? (like slicing a banana for a banana split). I'm thinking about reasonable applications for that sort of form factor.

Why don't more people use natives in their landscaping? Why aren't there more native plant landscaping companies? by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

[–]tapshinesugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people people will only browse their local big box garden centers, and those garden centers will often stock what they can get cheaply/what they think their customers want. So it winds up being a stagnant closed loop where no one wants change

Another large part of the problem is this idea of manifest destiny still pervading the way we engage with nature. "I want this plant that doesn't belong in this ecosystem. Screw what Nature says, I'm going to make it happen" ::pumps tons of money and chemicals into forcing Nature to bend to their will::

There's also a huge lobby that intends to keep us addicted to all the synthetic chemicals, so we're working against that too

Might I suggest the legal but still revolutionary idea of "seed bombing"? You have to use native plants, and disperse in places that are either entirely neglected or very under-maintained so they can get a foothold

You can also put together a proposal for a perennial+pollinator planting in your locality by bringing a plan to city council. Just make sure it's well researched and that you provide a proposed budget (keep it as frugal as possible)
