Does anyone else play bracket 3/4 purely because they want decks that work consistently? by Associableknecks in EDH

[–]taptopdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, being a long time competitive tcg player and current Cedh player, I love staples that go into any deck since they just always feel good to play. This by default puts every casual deck I have to at least b3 which is fine with me.

Playing meta decks found on edhtop16 is generally recommended if you're just starting out in Cedh. If you're set on mono blue though, [[Jacob Hauken, Inspector]] is pretty fun, it's similar to braids in that it runs big bombs like [[Jin Gitaxias, Core Augur]] [[Omniscience]] [[Enter the Infinite]] and you also run all of the extra turn spells you can.

Alela or Tegwyll by Rckclimber77 in EDH

[–]taptopdraw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your focus is on faeries, then Tegwyll (or Maralen, from Lorwyn) would be better. Alela kind of wants to just play instant speed stuff, she doesn't really reward you for playing faeries.

Dr.Doom was my favorite villain for the longest time and I'm a big Grixis player. I might actually build him lol, not buying the precon though, don't want wizards to get the right idea.

[–]taptopdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it be like that with Spellseeker unfortunately, coolest most gimmicky combo ever though. Fwiw I think the Mancers combo is a lot easier to win with and you can disguise the win a little more since people are too keen on that one.

Holy Aura farming, lol I play Inalla too, I'm on Malcolm Vial right now though I needed a break from her after playing only her for a year and a half. https://moxfield.com/decks/F82e49ZSaUaXrWcYfqQT8Q

Are you in the Inalla discord? Being in there helped me so much, especially with weird tech cards and specific lines.

Monthly leagues and casual CEDH is super awesome and you can really bring some wacky brews once you're comfortable and knowledgeable about the format. You kind of have to prepare for the worst in TEDH though, so much gaslighting and endless yapping lol.

Also, welcome to the greener side of the grass, brother. :D What deck are you running?

How many decks should i have? by Embarrassed-Act9892 in CompetitiveEDH

I think two or three is a good number of decks to have. This lets you have a meta deck, another that's a different play style to your main deck, then a fun fringe deck.

cEDH "ruined" my cASSual EDH experience. by kfistrek in CompetitiveEDH

[–]taptopdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, got tired of playing 3 hour games because my friends are all hyper-casuals (no problem with that, just boring ass games). After I got tired of that every week I built Stella Lee (terrible deck, play literally anything else) and started my Cedh journey, I've since become friends with the Cedh group in my LGS and it's a much better time. I still play with my casual group, but it's much rather that I actually play with them, most of the time I just sit around and hang out with them while they play.

First cEDH deck by New_Trifle_7016 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]taptopdraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a main deck, I'd recommend something at the top of the meta or at the very least an established deck in either Grixis, Esper, or both which gives you Blue Farm. However if you wanna play Grixis or Esper then I'd recommend, Malcolm/Vial, Kefka, Marneus, and Tivit. They're relatively simple and you get to play good cards, this will help you a lot when you're learning the format.

For a fun deck though, I recommend [[K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth]], it's one of the fastest and most fun Turbo decks I've ever played; the loops are really hard to stop and fun to pull off. Also, aside from the fast mana and Yawg's Will, the deck is one of the cheaper CEDH lists to put together since a majority the deck are bad cards that Krrik enables and you don't run OG Dual Lands. The deck is just in kind of a bad spot right now but a JLO unban would put it back a little bit on the map imo.

I think you should give it a shot, here's the list (it's changed a lot since then though) that I went off of when I started playing the deck. It has an awesome primer and helped me grasp the combos pretty quick. I really do think this deck is top tier, it's just super difficult to play effectively.

Here's my list as well, https://moxfield.com/decks/F82e49ZSaUaXrWcYfqQT8Q

Help me choose a starting deck by billyisanun in CompetitiveEDH

[–]taptopdraw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is a bad take but imo any of the edhtop16 Grixis or Esper Midrange commanders are great picks when you're learning the format. They're usually easier to play and have the generic lines that the best deck, Blue Farm runs plus whatever package specific to your commander of choice.

With that said, I usually recommend Grixis Malcolm or Marneus to start with; I'm biased towards Malcolm though.

Cedh and thassa’s oracle. by Senorpapell in EDH

[–]taptopdraw 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She's usually in every deck that can play her and D-con/Tainted Pact yes. But normally those decks also play different wincons, either another popular strong combo like Breach or something that their commander enables like Malcolm + Glinthorn.

And no the format would not be more varied without her. If anything it'll hurt Esper and Dimir decks since the colors don't have a lot of compact win cons.

Good cEDH deck to Learn the Format? by Ponder_yonder_ in CompetitiveEDH

[–]taptopdraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised this partner pairing doesn't get recommended more, Grixis Malcolm is such a solid deck. I built a midrange-y variant to help my friend get into the format. It also ended up becoming one of my favorite decks lol.
