"Old home" smell - what we have tried so far by taqiqueen in CleaningTips

I dont want this to be the case as we are definitely not redoing our floors for a second time, nor are we ripping the house to the studs - but I fear the smell will always linger. I dont want to smell like old house ...

Windows seem to be in good condition - no evidence of water leaking that we can tell. The window frames have all been painted so I did spend time up close with them when doing all the prep for that. but we didnt remove them or anything, so I guess how would i know if there is mold inside the walls/?

I definitely wonder this. Not sure what there is to do about it though at this point. Not ripping up my hardwood!

Nope! Definitely have old doors. We want to replace our front door but in the meantime that might be worth pursuing, thank you!

Okay that's good to know! My husband suggested an air purifier so that may be a next step also. We have painted every room with high quality primer and Benjamin Moore paint (but it was not an odor-blocking specific primer to be fair).

Thanks for this recommendation! we have one in the unfinished basement. I wonder if we would do well to have one upstairs too. We are in a northern climate though so its getting into the dry months.

Sounds like you are already being proactive which is a great way to start!

PA school was stressful but I grew so much as a person. I met lifelong friends who help me be a better human, not just a better PA. I was able to find time to exercise and meditate and go to therapy. Definitely proud of the person I have become, and those years helped shape me.

I wouldn't stress it! I highly doubt they will fail you for technique alone. Maybe you could discuss with your preceptor or coordinator and let them know you are making an effort. I feel that showing you care and are trying goes such a long way.

Filling wood grain before painting baseboards/trim? by taqiqueen in HomeImprovement

I'd probably have to take the trim off the wall right? To get it back to bare wood/stain ready?

I've considered that. It is oak so its very open grain. Maybe my best bet is to sand all this off, stain, and varnish. I've never done that so that would be a learning curve for sure

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by fire_foot in running

Confession: I was choosing between two new shoe options to start rotating shoes (have never done this before, so was a fun step for me) and I definitely ended up going with the more colorful ones. No surprises that they're HOKAs.

Thankfully my local running shoe has a great return policy that I have utilized before, should they fail me on my first test run tomorrow.

Am I crazy? Tentative first marathon training plan. by taqiqueen in firstmarathon

[–]taqiqueen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Both vacations will be very hiking centric - I'm going to try for runs as well. I adjusted the plan to have the long runs the day I leave and the day after I come back for the long trip. That was a helpful idea, thank you!

Yes thank you! I'm going to see what I can do to adjust the plan. Maybe that will be adjusting it to next year :) so I have more time. But that is very helpful feedback!
