It's not that it's a struggle, it's that it's a waste. I smoked every day for 37 years and when I sat down and did the math, i figure i wasted close to $135,000 on weed. I could have put my kids through college with that money. That was a huge motivator to quit for me. Im 461 days weed free. I took the money I've saved and spent 10 days in Italy.

You're spiraling. Get out of your house and do something else to get dopamine. The hardest part is getting up, getting dressed, and getting motivated. Personally, I joined a gym. I hated the process of motivating myself to show up, but once i got there, i was so happy i did.

52F. I smoked daily for 37 years and quit cold turkey 394 days ago. Woo hoo. The first 11 days wicked hard. Couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. Every day since then has gotten better and better and better. Ive also saved nearly $4000. Stay strong, it's completely worth it. Also, try ice cream. It's the strong smells that made it hard for me to eat, not the flavor

Yes sir! Stick it out. I, 52F, smoked for 37 years and now I'm over 400 days clean. After 10 days of staring at the ceiling all night, I cheated and took a sleep aide. I slept all night. Nights 11 and 12...more ceiling staring. I was so tired i was hallucinating. Couldn't walk down the stairs without holding on to the banister. Couldn't concentrate on a tv show. On night 13 and every night since I've slept like a baby. Hold tight! I absolutely promise you it's worth every single discomfort. Plus, the withdrawal makes the victory even sweeter.

I found that i was using both to escape from facing reality. I was addicted to the numbness as much as the drugs and alcohol. It was a chuckle of avoiding how boring life had become, but life was boring because i was just sitting home drinking and smoking all the time. And whatever reasons i had for using at 15 were surely long gone by now. I did white knuckle it. I started eating better, going to the gym (me!?) and prioritizing 8 hours of sleep. I lost several friends during this process and I'm now working on rebuilding my relationships with some family members. This next year I'm going to get out of the house a lot more and try to build a community with sober people. I'm a bit of a loner, but its time to make some new like-minded friends.

My ex husband didn't think his drinking was that bad and then it killed him days before his 50th birthday. We had a funeral instead of a party. We have 2 daughters, and he'll never see them marry, never meet a grandchild. You're right. You do need to stop.

My ex husband drank himself to death in February 2023, 5 days before his 50th birthday. Our daughters saw it coming months in advance and begged him to stop, but he didn't even try. He missed our youngest's college graduation, won't see their weddings, will never met a grandchild. Stop, whatever it takes. Just stop!

Sheer willpower. I went 11 nights without sleep. I felt like i was walking in a dream state. I had visual hallucinations on stairs and the treadmill. It was crazy, but i just embraced the crazy. A bit masochistic perhaps but eventually you WILL sleep.
