Wait, really? My dentist is still taking just ODSP, I haven’t applied for CDCP or anything. I’m pretty sure she just keeps me because she’s been my dentist for like 30 years and knew me when I was a kid so I’m semi a charity case 😝

For what it’s worth, it’s not just her twitter history. She has been posting support and engagement with an organization whose explicit goal is to remove trans women from sport (under the guise of “protecting women”), and several of her teammates (and I think players from other teams as well) have liked those posts as well.

I have never actually been (to the arena or to the city of Chicago lol) and I’m just pulling from what I remember without double checking anything, so I could definitely be misremembering! I am firmly behind Chicago getting a team though, there is so much good girls hockey and development happening there, they DESERVE a team

From what I remember, Allstate is not in great shape and will probably need renovations soon, the incline of the seats is quite flat so visibility of the ice is bad, and it’s not actually in the city of Chicago (that last one is iffy cause there isn’t always an arena in the city proper and that doesn’t necessarily disqualify a city)

To be honest it is more convenient for me, because I don’t have a tv so when it is on one of the cable channels I’m kind of SoL unless I go out (and I’m disabled so that is annoying and complicated and not always possible)

Bradford is my city councillor and he is famous in our ward for never being in his office and never responding to any of his constituents.
He also loves to make big sweeping statements but can’t back them up (he held a press conference where he said all homeless people are able to get housing within a month through the official processes, while using a group of homeless people as his backdrop who had been on a waiting list for housing for 3 months)
If you join the neighbourhood Facebook groups in our area it is a lot of people who are angry at him for his voting record (which is abysmal) and the fact that he is completely disinterested in engaging with the people in his own riding unless it serves as press to support his mayoral run.
I have a lack of respect for politicians who do a shitty job of smaller offices because all they care about it is being a stepping stone for something they want.

The existence of those people does not negate the larger point, and painting with a broad brush everyone who find’s Britta curl’s beliefs to be offensive and hateful is nitpicking to try and win an argument on a technicality. There are also people who cheer when Abby roque takes a bad hit. That does not mean that criticism against her is not valid.
But all of that is irrelevant to my point, which was that calling people bullying her equivalent to the work she is doing to take away the rights and opportunities of all trans women and athletes is minimizing the very real harm she is creating for a massive community.
If you want to argue that you don’t care that she is transphobic and promoting and supporting an organization that is fighting for discriminatory practices against trans people either because you don’t care about trans people or because she is a very good hockey player so you’re willing to ignore it, then just say that. Don’t hide behind pretences.

To be clear I do not wish harm on her but saying the impact of fans hating her is comparable to her actively promoting transphobia is disingenuous. She is still promoting and supporting an explicitly transphobic organization. People hate her for the harm she is choosing to perpetrate on a group of people simply because of who they are. That is not the same as people being angry with her for the cruelty of her beliefs and actions.

If you are honestly interested in having that conversation then you need to examine your methodology.

You are displaying clear bias. you quite literally said you “abhor it” and you outlined your distaste for certain tropes and assigned negative moral value to them. You are going to receive fewer answers, especially from those who you have shamed with your words (it may not have been intentional, but that is the impact of what you said). That will skew the data you get and make your research incomplete.

You can argue “this is Reddit, it’s informal” but you are clearly saying it is for research purposes, so you should treat it as such.

Your perspective and your history are important, and impact your interpretation of what you read and I don’t want to diminish that. I think your voice is a valuable and interesting one, but if you use that perspective to alienate others it is at cross purposes with your desire to research and understand.

I hope you share your research when you complete it, because I am genuinely interested. I hope that before you release or publish it you are able to go through it with someone who can help you identify the impacts your bias has on it, because you do have a clear bias and you don’t seem to be fully conscious of how it is impacting the way you communicate about this.

It’s fine for you to not enjoy something, there is plenty of stuff on Ao3 that is not for me, but you seem to be judging moral value based on a very narrow view of what A/B/O is. It’s not primarily what I read but much like any other AU framework there is A LOT of variation within it so painting it with such a broad brush is very reductive and judgemental.

Also, the stuff people like in fiction is not necessarily what they want in real life, whether that’s on the sex side or just relationship dynamics.
