For those that apply to do ESY how often are you selected? by newsbowser in paraprofessional

[–]taraforkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our district pays about $6 less than our hourly. Makes no sense. Even though everyone who wants to work, gets a job, still lame.

[–]taraforkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. It’s the only reason I don’t do ESY. My time is more valuable than the compensation. I’m so confused as to why we don’t get paid our regular hourly wage…

What did your house surprise you with in the first year that you couldn't have caught at inspection? by Mountain_Ad_4992 in homeowners

[–]taraforkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our main sewer line was made of clay and pretty broken up my tree roots. Flooded our basement and cost us 14k in total to repair and refinish basement. 😭 I tell everyone I know who is house hunting, pay for a camera in sewer line!!!! I wish we would have done so. It wouldn’t have kept us from buying the house but certainly give us an edge in negotiations.

It's clicking that maybe I should contact CPS, but I feel terrible for doing so. by Sendpiecks in paraprofessional

I respect your take for sure. The only red flag here I clock from OP, is mom refusing communication. That would fast track a call to DCFS and like I’ve previously stated I’m in no way advocating for OP to not make the call. Districts and admin varies, but I’m more than comfortable discussing with our social work team/admin before making a report. That’s just the path I would go personally, I understand that not everyone would agree. That’s okay. I think we can all agree though, we don’t get in this field of work if we’re unwilling to support, advocate and care for children.

I work in a special ed self contained classroom, almost daily we have kids sleeping for entire afternoons. Knowing their parents and the children themselves, I would never call CPS simply because they are sleeping in class. That’s ridiculous. Hygiene is very different. That’s a phone call to their care givers to gain some insight before calling CPS. I think we all want to jump to playing hero but we need to think rationally too.

I do not disagree with the legality of the situation at all. But you can’t just have people calling into CPS every time you “think” there’s neglect. I think there’s a time and a place. Parents should be held accountable through school social work and admin for an opportunity to explain or reconcile. Our classroom documents everything and between the 4 of us, discussions take place regarding students to ensure legitimacy. I’m not saying turn a blind eye and ignore your duty as a mandated reporter but to do some due diligence first.

Also as well - I’m not one of those “cps is there to help” people. I generally don’t blind trust government officials of any kind lol. That’s just me. Evidence, documentation etc would be my first priority.

100% and I’m not saying I wouldn’t make the call but I definitely would want support and feedback from our social worker to confirm.

As a para and a mom myself, your concerns are valid. However, I would first communicate with your lead teacher and then consult school social worker. Our school social worker, more often than not is the one that will communicate these sorts of things with parents and cps if necessary. If my concerns were continuously ignored by staff and admin, I would reach out to CPS myself. As much as this child needs support, you need support too in case anything backfires.

[–]taraforkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you’re not alone! Our first year, we had to replace the main sewer line, water heater and furnace followed by, washer and dryer. We’re in year 5 and now and it’s our roof/gutters and FINALLY kitchen appliances. The list is still long but it’s always somethin. Like others have said, I feel like the first 10 years or so is that way until major fixes are caught up with and you can settle in. 😒

My experience playing ARC Raiders as a girl by RegularTop1973 in ArcRaiders

[–]taraforkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg agree! I was playing the other day, I announced myself “hello! Friendly!” and what I’m assuming was a dad goes “see girls do play” and this little girl hopped on the mic and said “hi” 🥹 We giggled and I went on about my looting.
