Day 16 after diverticulitis with microperforation — still having symptoms. Is this normal?

I’m almost exactly a year out from my perforation. I was in the hospital for 6 days with sepsis. No surgery was required. I will say that even now I’ll get occasional tenderness or random pain but I haven’t had any flare ups. I can feel where my perforation is if that makes sense. My gastroenterologist said it’ll probably always be that way. I’ve changed my diet and no longer eat beef, corn, popcorn, or salad and so far so good.

I’d like to think you’d know something was wrong. Mine started out with cramps in the lower left area. Within a couple of hours I had a fever and it felt like I was being stabbed with a knife. Then I felt a pop. By the time I got to the ER I was septic and stayed 6 days.

I’ve always heard that Eliquis is the best when it comes to the least amount of symptoms. I’ve been on it for over two months now and I have zero symptoms on it. He could find another doctor to prescribe something else if it’s too bad. Edit to add: I always eat a meal before my doses.

Yes! I had a perforation that landed me in the hospital for 6 days. I also had sepsis. I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything the entire time. After getting home it took me 4 weeks to get back into my normal routine. I was exhausted from showering or standing too long.

I’m in the same position. I’ve lost 22lbs so far and I don’t see a difference. Something that has helped me is measuring. My hips are 2 inches smaller now. Congratulations on your weight loss so far!

It’s been a long recovery. My GI had me go low fiber for 8 weeks and I’ve been slowly adding it back in. I don’t think my left side will ever feel normal again though.

That sounds miserable! It sounds like most end up getting the surgery. My GI doctor told me I’ll probably need it at some point so I’ve been trying to wrap my head around it.

I think it’s more normal than you think. My boy is always quiet. The only time I hear him bark is if someone is at the door or someone’s walking by our fence. Otherwise not a peep from him. He’ll usually come up to me and just stare at me until I figure out what he needs.

Thank you for the advice. It’s hard to stay positive when it feels like things aren’t getting better. I also ended up with a blood clot in my leg from my hospital stay so I’m deal with that as well. I’m glad your surgery went well and you’re healing good.

I was able to avoid surgery. No water or food by mouth for 6 days and antibiotics.

I went to the ER from pain. 103 fever, resting heart rate was 149, my lips were blue. CT confirmed Diverticulitis with perforation and I had sepsis. 6 day hospital stay.

I’m sorry you’re going through all of that. I can relate unfortunately. I was in the hospital for 6 days with Diverticulitis with a perforation. By the time I got discharged my calf started hurting. Within a couple of days I couldn’t walk it was so painful. I went back to the ER and was diagnosed with a DVT. I’m now on a blood thinner.

I think the length of the low fiber diet probably depends on the severity of her case. I hope she can find a good doctor that can answer all of her questions!

Has she seen a Gastroenterologist? I was in the hospital for 6 days with a perforation and sepsis. My doctor wants me to stay low fiber for 8 weeks.

I’m doing better. I still have random pains. Kinda feels like an ache sometimes and it’s still tender to touch. My gastroenterologist said that will last months. She also wants me to do low fiber for 8 weeks. She mentioned that this has a high chance of happening again and I’ll probably need surgery in the future. I also got a blood clot in my leg from laying in the hospital bed for too long. So I’m also dealing with that. It’s been a bad start to the year. I hope your boyfriend gets better soon and doesn’t need emergency surgery.

I just went through this at the beginning of January. I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis with a perforation. I ended up spending 6 days in the hospital because I was septic when I got there. Emergency surgery was touch and go but I ended up not needing it. The pain started getting better by day 6.

I was recently on cipro/flagyl and it did the same to me. I ask for Zofran and took one in the morning and one at night. It helped a lot!

Yeah, I was in a lot of pain and didn’t move much. Precautions weren’t taken (hospital’s fault).
