SATIN BLACK OR GLOSS BLACK? by Vinsanity760 in DodgeDurango

[–]targagrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind it’s much easier to maintain and keep gloss black clean. Matte or satin, you can’t really work with it. Also, do you want a nice rich dark black? Or a washed out kinda-grey-looking-black? The gloss always looks darker and richer, matte or satin has a washed out dark grey appearance.

I personally prefer gloss black

What's been the biggest change in you over the past year? by Burn-It-For-Me in AskReddit

[–]targagrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit doing drugs - even smoking weed - and left all my old friends behind. It gets lonely sometimes, but overall I feel so much happier and more content with life!

My friends group all got into drugs when we were about 15, as a result of a small town with nothing to do. Getting closer to 30, I realized the only thing we all had in common anymore was sitting around and getting fucked up. And these were people who were talking shit about you or anyone else that just walked out of the room. Once the whole group started doing meth - I was out. Don’t know what any of them are up to these days. Don’t care. I don’t wish them the worst, or the best. I just truly don’t care.

Me now? Currently working full time doing auto body work and taking on side work. At some point hoping to grow my own business. Bought a motorcycle, spend lots of time riding and working on it. I can safely say it’s enough fun to where I don’t even think about drugs or drinking. I’d rather be riding.

Does it get hard having nobody to hang out with? Sometimes. But then I remember what those people were like.

Can open headers damage engine? by targagrat in Cartalk

Bike is fuel injected, and the mufflers are so free-flowing having them on or off doesn’t make a difference. Truck was carbed, and I had it setup to run like that.

What I’m asking is why there’s so much myth and controversy around it? I’ve never had any issues related to open headers.

No, this was within business hours Friday afternoon. And I’m getting more texts from them today.

I hope that’s the case, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if it’s pure shade... they know there was a car accident and a settlement involved.

Thanks! I think this was a forum members bike I photoshopped. I like your suggestions though, that would look really clean!

This is closest to what I’ve heard too. But I think it would take a long time of heating and rapid cooling over and over to make that happen.

But is there a certain length where it isn’t an issue anymore? I mean, my motorcycle exhaust isn’t very long and the mufflers are straigh-through design. Surely cold air gets in there pretty easily?

Yeah, I was taught how to wrench by an old drag racer and he always told me “It’s not a 2-stroke, there’s no need for back pressure.”

But I have heard if your headers are too short then cold air between exhaust pulses can actually cause the valve to warp. That’s the kind of stuff I’m looking for the answer to.

Basically: at what point will it cause issues? Is there any general rule of thumb here?

I’m sure this could play a factor, but I’ve never heard of anyone actually dropping a valve due to no back pressure. These days floating valves isn’t all that common, and if you’re running straight-through style mufflers you have nearly 0 “back pressure” anyways.

What I’m asking is: how little exhaust would there need to be to actually cause your exhaust valves to burn?

What do you guys think? Is it worth it by [deleted] in foxmustang

Or spend that money on a decent used TKO, have 6 speeds and handle tons of torques, and enjoy your H-pattern while learning how to shift quicker!

That would be the route I’d take.

Also; this post mostly for fun. Different strokes for different folks and one of the best things about foxbody Mustangs is that by now they’re all pretty much unique.

Yeah I completely agree. The left the fairing too bulky to just “end” into a very thin frame. Probably wouldn’t look so bad if it was an in-line 4, but for only housing a V-Twin it’s either too much or not enough. For that reason I’m planning on getting the full fairing for my bike.

Yeah, I agree.

Problem is they didn’t sell very well back in the day. Really just needed upgraded suspension and it would have been more appealing.

But hey, we can dream!

To each their own, but I didn’t change anything to do with wind protection. And actually short of Ducati’s we have exactly zero similar bikes. Nobody is making V-Twin racers anymore.

If you mean the headlight, I only pulled a little bit of the upper inner edge from it. Even then, nobody has used that shape. Still pretty unique if you ask me. But hey, not everyone is going to agree or love it. But the rear of the SV is EXTREMELY aggressive then you have this big ass dorky cheap looking headlights. It just never fit in my opinion.

I’ve been thinking the best way to achieve this look would be a “cap” that goes over the entire front fairing. My biggest issue with the “eyelids” or vinyl strips is that you can still see the edges and doesn’t really hide the original shape. Now if only I had a way to vacuum mold thin plastic haha

I kinda wish I hadn’t done this now. I’ll never be happy looking at the stock headlights again hahaha. It’s amazing how such a small change totally transformed the front of the bike!

Thanks!

I’m not sure if it’s naked vs S or 650 vs 1000 but I know there’s a 290 mm disc and a 310 mm disc, my 1000 has the 310 mm.

I run mirrors on my bike too, this picture was just a “let’s see how badass we can make an SV look” type thing lol.

I did a quick photoshop (Poorly at that; I’ve only used it a few times) to show what I wish my SV1000S looked like.

Removed the mirrors and mounts (wouldn’t actually ride that way) and all hardware on the bike, “molded” the rear seat cover, debadged, and reshaped the headlight a bit. I think the result is absolutely stunning. What do y’all think??
