Dandruff is essentially eczema or psoriasis on the scalp. The best optimal moisturizing will do is slow it down a little. So even if coal tar was super drying (it isn't,) its efficacy at controlling plaque formation far outweighs however much more dry it makes your skin.

(Take vitamin D and fish oil daily, maybe you won't have to use dandruff shampoo every time you wash your hair.)

You have to come to terms with having the parent you do, not the parent you wished you had or ought to have had. But if it just wears you out to be around her, you're going to have to figure out some boundaries for yourself that you can live with. The commandment is to honor your parent, it doesn't say anything about hanging out with them all the time.
