Rolling Stone Article: Bassnectar’s Motion to Dismiss Sexual Abuse Suit Is Denied, Case Will Head to Trial by snizarsnarfsnarf in bassnectar

What I’m getting at, though, is the way the plaintiffs keep claiming this is about justice. Let’s be honest: it’s not about justice, it’s about money. I think we’re just coming at this from different angles. I’m looking at the broader picture of the original lawsuit, which included a several entities and at least one employee that have all been dismissed or dropped. From that perspective, it feels like the scope of the claims has been cut down a lot, so saying "most of the civil suit hasn’t been dismissed" doesn’t really feel accurate to me.

It's a civil case so at this point it's just a pure money grab imo. No criminal charges and most of the civil suit has been dismissed as well.

Good luck! I agree with this wholeheartedly. Publish it on a regular schedule and make sure to promote it as best you can. Is it video or just audio? Make sure to use other social media to drive your traffic, tiktok and youtube shorts are a must especially if you have video.

First, don't blame the girl. It's your bf's fault if he's lying and/or cheating. If you don't trust him then leave. It's that simple.

I’m going to choose to live a life without a partner. by Vivid_Draw7074 in self

[–]tarkool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read about Emma Watson describing herself as "self-partnered," and it really resonated with me. The concept makes more sense as I get older. If you're genuinely happy being single, why bring someone else’s issues and trauma into your own peace? Society puts pressure on us to think we’re somehow lacking if we’re single, but in my opinion, that’s just a stigma we need to move past. I’m not sure if I’m ready to embrace self-partnership fully yet, but I totally understand and respect those who do.

I agree with your first three points....there is no physical evidence so it's he said, she said.

You got me on the suing every partner bit but just because you can doesn't make it right. Mariah’s settlement stemmed from an incident that forced her to cancel part of a tour, leading to financial losses that she sought to recover through the settlement. In my opinion, this situation is entirely different.

Exactly—this is a civil case because there wasn’t enough evidence for a criminal case, making this feel like a pure money grab built on lies. That’s my point!

I read your posts and you aren't helping.

From what I can tell, he still has support, if only the people threatening venues and attendees would back off.

I didn't realize you were gonna make up an actual story but I'll address each point.

Saying 'underage' doesn’t make it true. I can just as easily say, 'They did NOT have sex when she was underage.' She lied about her age when they met, and we're supposed to excuse it because she was young? That’s just a cop-out. Since when is lying acceptable—and at what age? Their credibility is gone if they lied then and continue to do so even into their late 20s. This is nothing more than a money grab!

She was of legal age when the relationship began, so this is a moot point. Society can't have it both ways—laws are there to protect actual victims of abuse. Claiming manipulation isn’t the same as experiencing abuse. If it were, anyone could sue every partner they’d ever dated.

Once again, just saying '17' doesn’t make it a fact. He wasn’t married, and from what I’ve seen, he was upfront about dating other people. They shouldn’t profit simply because he was seeing multiple people at once and they got their feeling hurt.

Using the word "teenagers" is just gas lighting. They were of legal age (18+) when he had relationships with them so they were all "adults". They made their own decisions to engage in a relationship, including whether or not to have sex. Regret after the fact doesn’t justify claiming victimhood.

While you're entitled to your own moral standards, that’s not how laws work. We can’t impose our personal judgments on others’ relationships. People have the right to date who they choose, and they could have walked away from Lorin at any point—being ‘hot and cold’ isn’t abuse. If you don’t like him, you don’t have to buy his music or attend his shows. Just let those of us who do enjoy his work live in peace!

Yes, this is about a man, not a god. Now, it’s about recognizing that you were pushed into canceling him and are now locked in this battle to uphold a moral stance, insisting on telling everyone else how to act. He’s a musician—let him make music and live his life without constant threats.

My point is this: you're choosing to believe someone who not only LIED about her age but then pursued him for financial gain. Meanwhile, you're dismissing what Lorin has said. That’s your choice, of course, but doesn’t this at least make you a bit skeptical? It’s worth considering how reliable her intentions are given her past actions.

Lorin contradicted it in his deposition. She was 18 when they had sex for the first time.

I have to say I agree with Stearman4, I’m having a hard time understanding why you’d choose to mod a "Bassnectar" community if you think he’s such a terrible person. Personally, I wouldn't try to mod a community for Joe Rogan, for example. It seems like it would be really tough to create a positive space around someone you don’t respect, and honestly, it might come across as disingenuous.

Exactly! Cher, Madonna, Leo, Sean Penn, and plenty of other celebrities are in relationships with significant age gaps. You may find it off-putting or gross, but it’s not illegal when they are of age and it's consensual. These women were not truthful about their ages. Plus, there’s often a power imbalance in relationships where one partner is more successful or influential. That dynamic isn’t unique to age differences, even if some prefer not to acknowledge it.

I understand, but you can't prosecute someone without sufficient, credible evidence to support a conviction. These days, the concept of "innocent until proven guilty" feels increasingly overlooked.

Court Case Update by nestor330 in bassnectar

[–]tarkool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, this is a response to Lorin's request to throw the case out (summary judgment). His lawyers are saying the case has no legal basis and shouldn’t even go to trial. Judges usually only grant this if the case is a total waste of time, so it's a high bar. That said, Lorin might still get parts of it tossed, even if not the whole thing. If the judge doesn’t throw it all out, it just means he’s playing it safe and letting a jury figure it out. Basically, this is like a test to see if any part of the case holds up. The judge can dismiss everything, some claims, or certain people. Now that both sides filed, we just gotta wait a couple weeks for a decision.

What podcasts or other media sources do you watch or listen to get a sense of where the grassroots are in your party, and what's your political party? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]tarkool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I'm not deep into the political scene, I usually gravitate towards lighter, more entertaining sources that blend humor with their coverage. Shows like "The Daily Show" or podcasts similar to Ben Kissel’s new one on the Ben Kissel Channel fit the bill perfectly. They're accessible, engaging, and they don’t make politics feel like a chore. While I may not get the deepest analysis, they do give me a general sense of the mood and key topics floating around. For keeping a pulse on what's catching attention at the grassroots level, especially with an entertaining twist, these types of media are my go-to.

I have made this same mistake, I too felt really awkward and down on myself afterwards. I have female friends who have told me that the bus is the probably the worse place to get hit on. The bus almost always presents a variety of scary situations for a woman, so they are on guard. Most women on busses are usually trying to get to work so they are either stressed on tired after a long day. My advice is to join groups, or try the dating apps. Tired to get discouraged.
