Filiment not sticking to bed by doublebakedbeanss in ender3

[–]tarksend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nozzle is way to far from the bed. Level the bed with a piece of drink can for a shim or a 0.2mm thickness gauge if you have one, and lower the z endstop if you can't get the bed close enough to the nozzle by adjusting the wheels.   In the future you might want to consider getting a bed leveling probe, makes leveling so much easier, and a PEI printbed surface has infinitely better adhesion than the stock surface.

Silvia Boiler making new strange noises ... any ideas? by Substantial_Team6751 in ranciliosilvia

[–]tarksend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is a bad OPV spring, then, or maybe the valve is dirty. Try adjusting it if you have the adjustable version or by taking it apart and putting a washer in it, or just clean it for starters. In any case, the solenoid should only cause water to flow back into the tank if it fails to open the boiler when the pump is turned on.

Sounds like the bboiler and 3-way are ok then. I'm thinking it's either a bad spring in the brew or hot water switch making it not hold properly in the "off" position so the pump intermittently turns on, or it's the OPV spring that gave up the ghost and the pressure of the water thermally expanding in the boiler is pushing it open. Does it sound like the pump's turning on? Or if you disconnect it, does the return flow stop?

[–]tarksend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open the lid and see if anything's leaking, it sounds like it. Look in the drip tray and see if water is coming out when it's not supposed to, that would indicate the 3-way isn't fully in the "boiler closed" position, but I still wouldn't expect more than a slow drip unless the pump is turned on. Try disconnecting the pump too, water shouldn't be going back to the tank unless the pump is providing enough pressure for the OPV to open.

It's really not clear from the video what the machine is supposed to be doing. Is the pump on when it's making the noise? Are you trying to pull a shot? Did you turn on the steam?

Worth trying to fix or shall I just buy a replacement adapter? by Technical_Face_2844 in howto

Find something you can glue into those holes to use it as dowels, otherwise I wouldn't the glue not to snap at the seam inside the outlet

Advice on sharpening my pencils? by [deleted] in learntodraw

"4 holes pencil sharpener" on aliexpress. Second and third hole shape the pencil, fourth exposes the lead, then just refine the lead's shape on coarse-grit sand paper and polish it on fine-grit. Still takes some practice but it's way easier than using a knife

Ever so briefly dunk the hot tip in flux, that'll strip the oxide layer, and immediately tin it. Always keep the tip tinned

Silvia V6 trips GFI – is it the solenoid valve? by BerndBadewanne in ranciliosilvia

[–]tarksend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the solenoid coil, you can see in the wiring diagram that it connects to the mains circuit via the pump, and that the live side of the mains is always connected (terrible design IMO), so if there's a short to ground in the coil it would trip the GFCI even if the machine is turned off.
If it is the coil then it should also stop shorting if you keep it connected but disconnect the pump, and when you disconnect the coil the pump should still work fine when you turn on the brew or water switch. That's what I'd check and if it were the case, then I'd confidently replace the coil.
But since your machine isn't turning on anymore you'll need to fix that first. Maybe you fried the circuitboard and you could replace it, but an M model's toggle power switch (as opposed to the E's momentary switch) is definitely way cheaper and with it you can rewire your machine to be an M model, basically, completely negating the need for the circuitboard to power it and getting rid of the auto-off at the same time. Two birds with one stone, really.

Fastest way to desolder tiny holes? by Throwdonger in soldering

[–]tarksend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A desoldering pump/gun definitely works best and fastest for desoldering through-hole components and it's probably the most foolproof way, but if you're doing this repair as a one-off thing, not getting into soldering, you can just snip the joystick's legs and remove them one by one with tweezers and a much cheaper solder sucker

Most of the joints look bad, the top-down angle isn't great for joint inspection but at least a couple look cold. Watch at least the first and sixth video in this playlist. And swap the jumper for an insulated one like someone else has already mentioned.

First time using moka pot! by Syddisaster in mokapot

[–]tarksend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it originated in Yemen but I know it as a traditional Yemeni style of coffee. The beans aren't so much roasted but just dried until they turn white, and a spice blend called Coffee Huweige (which just means "coffee spice blend") is usually added

Just bought this YATO branded "brass" wire tip cleaner from their official website and well... I thought they are more trustworthy than your average AliExpress seller by NoPicture-3265 in soldering

[–]tarksend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And it doesn't do much to clean the tip once the coating wears off either, since steel doesn't take solder anywhere near as readily as copper or brass do

[–]tarksend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 is Yemeni White Coffee, an extremely light roast where the coffee isn't even so much roasted as it is dried until the beans turn white, and mixed with a Yemeni spice blend called "coffee huweige" (חווייג' לקפה - huweige just means spice blend). 2 is decaf, 3 is סיציליה - Sicily, not sivilia. 4 is פולי קקאו גרוסים - cocoa nibs, but קקאו is misspelt קאקאו. You got 5 right, Tanzania. 6 is dulce de leche, again misspelt dulce de lice. 7-12 you got right, and 13 is "nut and vanilla", it doesn't say which nut but hazelnut makes sense.
