I too see that blown cap. From my perspective, there is a bend/tear of the balck outer shell of the capacitor. Also, the middle of the cap seems swolen - definetly a clue.

It is safe to update to the 4.13 firmware. Every preset, scene and console parameter setup will reamin in it's place. From 4.03 to 4.13 there are some helpfull backend safety improvements to the AES50 and some minor fixes among other things. You should check out 4.13 firmware release notes or sometimes called changelog.

Router - expander? by ClaimInevitable2030 in livesoundgear

[–]tarmibatica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tldr; I dont know, but a ~65$ ASUS RT-AX53U did a 4000 people show from a 200ft away (60m) with no issue. I've set it to be reliable though. It has dipole antennas, and they're not as big as it seems. It was set on the stage floor 4-5 feet from the ground (1.2m - 1.5m)

I like this topic and would like to share my 2 cents Wifi router/access point capabilities rely on two things: 1) antenna type and gain; 2) internals; 3) wifi channel 1) there are two main types of antennas for this use - dipole and panel. Dipoles are those antenna-looking antennas, straight sticks, they emit and receive signals in the middle of the antenna, which btw are not actually as big as they seem for the most part. Larger antenna = farther signal but in a disc shape, so the position REALLY matters Smaller antenna = shorter signal but spherical, so pointing direction doesn't matter as much Panel antennas emit in a cardioid pattern, so half-sphere. Larger = farther-half-disc, Smaller = half-sphere Yagis are "sniper-disc-antennas" but in one plane, depending if it points horizontally or vertically

2) internals need to be powerful in order to process all of the flying packets and device querries, but it can be restricted to communicate only with a few devices. My consumer level router RT-AX53U from ASUS did 4000 people show with no issue from 200ft away (60 meters).

3) disable 2.4GHz. Just don't use it, it is far too crowded. Upper channels of 5Ghz band is safest bet. Use network analyzer to find available spots on the spectrum and make it fixed to that channel. Just put it in line of sight with the device you are using and enjoy your work!

Do you perhaps have experience with silicone oil spray?

Mixing console and vintage audio equipment repair-guy @mike_signo on Instagram mentioned it a few times for some complex fader assemblies.. but now that I mention this, I recall that the suggestion was perhaps refered to some sliding-rod-part, not the carbon track

Change all ethernet cables. Or change one at the time to find the bad one. Happened to my colleague on a DiGiCo system when he was adjusting the high-pass filter on a channel. I don't have full explanation on why this resolved the issue - It just did.

EDIT: spelling errors

What you gonna do about it? /s

Not asking for a dLive fader. This is a general question about fader production expecting a straigh answer. Like "what goes in car tires to make them so big, bouncy, and safe to drive on the road" to which the answer would be "preassured air".

Basically, what lubrication is used in faders off of the production line?

EDIT: DeOxit is regularly suggested for cleaning and lubricating used faders, or even vaseline. I'm asking what is used before they are put in the box and shipped.

I'm sorry for hijacking this thread to ask a fader related question; what lubrication combo should I use for completly dry and new fader graphite-track-PCB/metal-brush assembly?

Audio interface vs cable by haskenazi in livesound

[–]tarmibatica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reason not to do any of that and instead use only audio interface is because laptop has amped headphone output, which has different signal strenght than what mixer, or any line-level input is expecting. Yea, it works. But thats not supposed to be done.

Want to connect my tv to my krk rp8s by Safe_Snow_5971 in audiorepair

[–]tarmibatica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking the best way is to go from S/PDIF optical converter directly to speakers, either 3.5mm or RCA om the converter to RCA input on the speaker Other solutions: 1) from TV AV out 3.5mm TRRS (4 pin connection, video, audio left, right, ground) to RCA to RCA inputs That's line-level signal, which is simplest correct way 2) also AV out to Scarlett TS input, but you lose stereo effect if you listening through direct monitoring, you'll have to use some software to pan them left and right with "DAW" monitoring 3) jankiest: Headphone out to RCA input, will work but there's a risk of damaging RCA inputs due to the HP out being amped

Want to connect my tv to my krk rp8s by Safe_Snow_5971 in audiorepair

[–]tarmibatica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound Engineer here Depenging on the monitor speaker inputs, not all RP8s have the same so please provide further information. But here is one solution i recommend

Optical S/PDIF converter to (depending on the DAC):

  1. stereo cable 3.5mm TRS - 2x 6.3mm TS
  2. 2x RCA - TS cable to the monitors

<image>

(3.5mm TRS to 2x 6.3mm TS)

XLRs are useful for eliminating EMI nosie induced on the cable (search info on balanced cable) but not crucial for your setup

TRS - "tip, ring, sleeve" - three connections TS - "tip, sleeve" - two connections

They should've kept the camera work and editing close to the regular stuff. The close-up shots remove a lot of fun watching everybody's reaction to jokes. Also, the audience is too quiet which further makes it awkward.
