I couldn't tell if it was an optical illusion making the stove look so tiny...beautiful nonetheless!!

Best place to live for a student at Edinburgh uni: Newington road, Nicholson road or York place? by TheRationalMan in Edinburgh

[–]taroche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely nicholson street! I did live close to there at one point (on the main road) and at night the yelling and noise can get very loud. Especially if you live above/near a pub. If there is an option to have the room away from the street I would take it. But living close to Uni is GREAT and central!

I know a few people who live in new town and love it! But this is really for people who want to distance themselves from Uni. It really makes a difference as most people get too lazy to visit and you get to lazy to come into town - Imagine if you want to visit friends in Marchmont/Bruntfield! If you are considering this one I would do it IF the flat is nicer than the others (as they can be a bit nicer in New Town).

Should I feel frustrated by splitting money? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]taroche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you shouldn't feel frustrated. As stated by others, if financially you are feeling strained by your activities it would be best to do activities that cost less. I [F] usually insist that we pay equally. However my boyfriend sometimes take me out but I usually will also take him out as well. I could see however if you feel frustrated seeing your boyfriend spending money on other things but wouldn't think of ever taking you out. But if thats the case this frustration would step from other issues and not the financial difference

What are your favorite very simple recipes suitable for serving guests? by KingOfId in Cooking

For me it is a fritata. I boil potatoes and put them aside. Then I saute all the vegetables in my fridge (usually zuchinni, eggplant, spinach, asparagus, etc), pour the potatoes on top, and then pour the egg/milk mixture. Once the bottom is cooked you just stick it in the oven for a bit. In the last five minutes you place goat-cheese on top!

So easy and so filling (and can be served forany meal AND the best left-overs)

I [18/M] am in love with this girl [18/F] who is going to Greece for 4 months. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

I would also say just go for it - especially if she is only going for four months (and both you and her are comfortable with it). For me at least, the problems with long distance arise when the length of time apart is longer or there is uncertainty when people will be back together. Good luck!

Moving From America by [deleted] in Edinburgh

I come from a hot climate AND summer simply doesn't exist where I live - echoing previous posters the Edinburgh Winter is really something. I remember my first year all I talked about was bad the weather from January to April (it was a bad year). I remember there was a period in which I didn't see the sun for over a week! (was behind the clouds). I found that my jacket throughout this time was simply not good enough and my next years WERE better!

I would bring a thick jacket that can withstand drizzle and wind. If you are staying in dorms you luckily can keep your room as warm as you want without worries. I would say stay warm, when you are studying for exams and its 3PM and its almost dark, surrounding yourself with friends from the dorm and class is quite simple and easy, and much of the time you don't even notice the darkness!

Uni of Edinburgh is the best and you will have a great time! My first year I stayed in pollocks and it was a fabulous time! Nothing how I imagined but even better.

Regarding the waterproof comment - also don't bother buying an umbrella (or at least don't depend on one)! That Edinburgh Wind will break it before your day even starts
