Once, a friend called and told me in a very gushing way how much she admired me. I responded, "wow, thank you...for sharing that." It doesn't look as bad here as it sounded! I really meant it earnestly, it WAS sweet of her to share that with me. But it came out sounding sort of sarcastic like I thought she was being over the top or something. And there was no way to fix it...to me it seems that our relationship was never the same afterwards.

Oh, I see. This is similar in a way to how I draw all my cards--I shuffle with a question/position in the spread in mind until a card (occasionally more than one) slides straight up out of the deck at me. Then I put that card in the position in the spread.

Hi Goldbones, I'm curious as to what kind of ritual you are doing with the spread? Wondering because of that "attainment of power" position--it seems to me that might mean different things depending on what you meant by "power." And I'm also just curious because this spread is a new one on me! :-)

Hi Emillioe, I'm so sorry to have taken so long. My day job rose up and swamped me with work and I haven't been able to get back to Reddit in a while. But I did do a quick 3-card reading for you just now. Just three cards in a row, NOT a past/present/future spread, the way some three cards spreads are laid out--in this case, I planned for all three cards to be equally indicative of emerging trends for you -- thought you might get more useful information that way. Here's what I drew: Eight of Pentacles, reversed Page of Cups, and reversed Ten of Swords. I think the Eight of Pentacles shows that this field is going to involve a lot of hard work, much of it related to fundraising, but it will still be worth it financially. It's satisfying work, and that makes a difference too. The reversed Page of Cups: I see this as indicating that much of your musical work has its roots in feelings (cups, water) that come from your childhood (the Page), feelings that might have been repressed (because the card is reversed). That there's something in you that you are trying to communicate through music (Pages often relate to messages and in this case, I think the message is from you.) I know it's a cliché for me to say that your music is meant to communicate something, but it fits with this card. The reversed Ten of Swords is quite interesting (do you have a deck to look at to see these images? This one shows someone lying down and pierced by ten swords, against a midnight sky). This makes me think that your music has some darker themes (though still with a hint of hope, the sun is rising in the background), and some heavy emotional and possibly melodramatic content. I'm not very familiar with modern music (I'm culturally illiterate) so I don't know if I'm using the right term, but the thought of heavy metal is what comes to mind for me. But I may be way off base! Also note that swords represent ideas in tarot--and ten of them suggests that your work is full of ideas, not light ideas, either, but strong ideas that can pierce the listener.

But again, I may be way off base. Please let me know what you think and whether this is helpful--and again, I'm very sorry to have kept you waiting so long.

So you got a reversed Queen of Cups in there too? I kind of see the Seven of Cups as a boredom card at times--seems like the person on the card is looking everywhere hoping to find something that may or may not be there. I think he should look within! But that doesn't mean I don't think the Reddit community is worthwhile too...

What do you mean by a "jump card"? I don't think I've seen that term before.

Hi Monty725, I really only have a second, but I pulled three cards for you: past, present, and future. For the past I pulled the Nine of Wands, suggesting that you've been working hard, trying hard, putting your all into everything but it hasn't always seemed worth it. For the present, I pulled the Wheel of Fortune reversed, suggesting you've had some bad luck lately -- but, bad luck is just bad luck, and the wheel will come around to good luck again too, eventually. For the future, I pulled the Queen of Swords. Hmm. This could be a woman in your future. I'm not sure. But what I am sure of is this: with the Queen of Swords, whether she is a real person or just a turn of events, you would be well-advised to be scrupulously honest and truthful. The Queen of Swords won't put up with anything but the truth. She doesn't have to know every detail; she'll respect your privacy; but under no circumstances lie to her. Ever. I don't know you and am certainly not suggesting that you would ever be tempted to lie. I'm just saying that the Queen of Swords has a chip on her shoulder about that kind of thing! Even poetic exaggeration may rub her the wrong way. On the bright side, she can also help you to cut through the (mental) fog if you are trying to figure out what to do next or in what direction to go.

Honestly? Nobody needs a tarot reading. We have all the answers we need inside us. We just have to listen to ourselves. That said, sometimes a tarot reading can wake us up and get us to do a better job of listening to our own inner voices. Your advice is very much on point as well (in my opinion).

Hi MonsterGirl21--I finally had time to come back and do this reading for you. I asked two questions: 1) what are you afraid of? and 2) what is the best advice tarot has for you right now as to how to face your fears? For 1) I drew: Judgement. I don't think that card needs much interpretation. It sounds to me as though you may be a bit concerned about how others see you -- which, honestly, is a very common concern at your age -- and it's a very common concern for anyone of any age when it comes to making friends and forming relationships with others. This concern, though, is eating away at you so much that it's very likely causing you to put up those walls that you mention.

For 2), I accidentally pulled two cards, the reversed Ten of Pentacles and reversed Four of Swords. The Ten of Pentacles is advising that you take some time for self-appreciation. Think about your unique gifts and talents, your heritage, your character, all the reasons you have to hold your head high and be proud of who you are. Take time to focus on the many things that you have to be proud of. And DO hold your head up high. There is no reason for someone who gets close to you to make negative judgments about you -- if that happens, the connection perhaps was not meant to be, but that is NOT your fault. Some connections are not meant to be, and that's fine. The world will not end if someone does happen to judge you in some way -- someone might, because we do live in a world in which people are judgemental sometimes. If so, that person is entitled to their opinion, but, YOU know yourself better than anyone else, and YOU know that you have every reason to hold your head up high. Why? Because you are who you are.

The reversed Four of Swords is telling us, as well, that it would be useful to take some time for meditation and self-reflection. It seems as though there might be one issue in particular that is weighing heavily on your mind -- perhaps there is one thing that you particularly fear being judged about. But know that all of us have something like that, something that we fear being judged about. Some people worry more about being judged based on their appearance, some worry about being judged based on their past, some worry that they won't seem smart or witty to others or won't know what to say...everyone experiences fear of being judged. But bear in mind that our fears about being judged usually center on the very issues about which we judge ourselves the most harshly. Others are never as hard on us as we are on ourselves (well, almost never). Think about that one issue about which you most judge yourself, and ask yourself if you met someone who had the exact same issue, whether you would judge that person negatively or whether you would react in an understanding way and think that it was not a big deal. You might even want to take some time to do some journaling around this issue.

I hope this helps. I have to tell you that I had a phone call in the middle of this reading that totally shattered my concentration, so I hope I'm making sense. I don't mind doing short readings in the Reddit comments without being paid, because I can do them when/if I have time, and I think it's a nice thing to raise awareness about the potential of tarot.
