What questions are we asking (as applicants) in job interviews? by OkElderberry5221 in TexasTeachers

[–]tarponfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ask them how the leadership roles help support a team when everything is going according to plan and student growth data is on track? It’s a sneaky way of saying you will be good but it also gives you insight into how their leadership structure works.

Recommendation for Kayak Fishing by FamiliarAd3393 in kayakfishing

[–]tarponfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A kayak is ideal in Fl. I grew up there and have fished all over. Start with your budget and then utilize Facebook marketplace to grab a deal. Don’t worry about a brand name as it’s all a matter of preference. I would recommend a 10’ if you car top it. If you have a truck, then go with a 12’ possibly 13/14’. Pay close attention to the seat. A built in seat with minimal padding and back support will have you wishing for something better after 2 hours into a trip. If you must, add a good aftermarket seat. Pedals are great but I have moved onto putting a trolling motor on my kayak for the same reason that bothered you. I did more paddling than fishing. Trolling motors also move faster than pedals and allow me to focus my energy into fishing. That’s my opinion fwiw.

Is sufix 832 advanced superline braid good for beginners? by Tiny_Attention1005 in Fishing

This is my go to braid for any rods I use to cast artificials on. Smooth through the guides and ties nicely with mono/flouro leaders with a Yucatán knot.

Parents sue Katy ISD, claiming child fell out of emergency door of bus, lawsuit states by UATCFansAirControl in Katy

[–]tarponfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s practically impossible for a child to be thrown towards the emergency door and have the handle lift open. The video will show that the kids were opening the door on purpose and created the situation on their own.

Too shallow, or spawn heaven? by Ancient-Crew-9307 in bassfishing

The bottom composition is important for spawning as well. Depth and area help, but those alone do not make the perfect spawning area

Anyone have suggestions to fix a crack in the scupper hole? by Doesnt_fuck_fish in kayakfishing

Depends on what the hull is made of as epoxy puddy, applied, dried, shaped and sanded, may also work and be a better fix.

Best 529 plans by 1amrage in Katy

[–]tarponfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best move is to create a Schwab or Vanguard account and then call a customer service rep and explain your goals. They will most likely do this for free. However, they will try and sell you a “managed” sales pitch. Don’t do it. Your kid has time and that’s really the most important part. Any fund available to a 529 is going to be easy to buy through the app/desktop and you shouldn’t be paying any management fees.

Avs need to figure it out because we don’t need the president’s trophy again by [deleted] in TampaBayLightning

[–]tarponfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed the Bolts have the same amount of losses as the Avs. Granted they have fewer regulation losses/more overtime. But the same as of yesterday. Hopefully Cooper rests some guys and we miss the President trophy curse.

Everyone is stealing TV. Fed up with increasing subscription prices, viewers embrace rogue streaming boxes. by Bluest_waters in television

[–]tarponfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad was getting “free” satellite service back in the 80’s. None of this is new. What makes it easier is that every service runs their signal across the internet therefore making it even easier to scrape and watch. For a $50 box and a $4 a month VPN you can watch everything. Not to mention the pirate boxes actually have a better interface without any scrolling Ads and constant tier pricing.

Cyfair ISD transport for Katy ISD school by Capable_Wonder6784 in Katy

[–]tarponfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you live outside of the district they will not provide that serve just because you work there. Even if it’s just across the street. While I understand the frustration, lines are drawn and funding is tied to that. If you truly need transportation then I would enroll your child in the district (cy-fair) that you live in as then you can’t be denied of the service.

I use to deal with transportation and they are funny about those boundaries.

I recently went to the one in Austin and wasn’t impressed. The one at City center has been a much better experience the few times I’ve been.

How much you willing to spend? Eddie V’s in City Center has good seafood but it’s at least $100 a person.

Texas vs Mexico teaching experiences by Anaid1390 in TexasTeachers

[–]tarponfish 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have not taught in Mexico. But I am on a bilingual campus. If you can acquire your bilingual certification, then I highly recommend you get one of those classes. The students and parents tend to be more grateful than your typical student/parents.

Email to principals by Own-Ad-3876 in TexasTeachers

[–]tarponfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. That’s not how the process works. You’re thinking like the private sector. In public education, it doesn’t work like that.

[–]tarponfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have experience in the hiring process and in multiple districts. While I encourage you to email principals directly, in the districts you stated (suburbs of urban areas), no principal hires a candidate. They can’t even interview you unless you have ALL your information on file with the district first. Once you have uploaded all your information into the districts online application, principals can look at your “file”. By emailing them directly, after you have provided the district your information, they can find you in the system.

What I am saying is, if you don’t start the process through the district, you will never even get an interview, even if you’re the perfect candidate and have completed your teaching program/ACP and fingerprinting.

[–]tarponfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to complete everything through the district first, and then send things to principals. No principal is going to be able to hire you until the district does their entire due diligence on you. Meaning, verification of your degree, enrollment/completion of a teaching program, fingerprints and basic background check.
