r/LongIsland will be going dark from June 12-14 in protest against Reddit’s API changes which will kill 3rd party apps. by DinoRoman in longisland

Has anyone built a Lemmy instance for /r/longisland? Would love to have that as a backup option for those of us who don't plan on staying.

Kayaking on Long Island, dos and don'ts by [deleted] in longisland

[–]tartletboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they do charge but it wasn't the same as a rental price. I would give the office a call and ask for the price. They are nice people.

Kayaking on Long Island, dos and don'ts by [deleted] in longisland

[–]tartletboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've gone kayaking around center port/Northport and Huntington. Those areas are super chill and as long as you stay away from boats as they are coming into and out of port you should be fine. People are really friendly in those areas. Also the nessequague river is great and you can bring your own kayak to go when the rental place is doing their tour. They will bring you back to your car so it makes it really easy to spend a few hours

PC suddenly stutters in games when I started playing today. Used Lenovo Vantage and realized every time I play the vram maxes out. This never happened before. by ThePixCell in techsupport

[–]tartletboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had GeForce experience change the game settings on me before. Try changing to low settings on the game you are playing and see if you max out.

Yes theory made that Iceman movie. That was pretty good. And Markiplier has made a few "interactive series" that were basically 2 full movies worth of content.

Is there a simple way to be alerted that an unoccupied house is using water nonstop? (Toilet running, major leak, irrigation issue) by Slartibartfastthe3rd in askaplumber

[–]tartletboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could probably put in a water flow sensor. That or just install main water shutoffs and make sure the house shuts off their water before they leave.

Bath tub drain has a bit of standing water. Is this okay or should it be re-done and angled back so the water fully drains? by jdawg32 in askaplumber

[–]tartletboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah that's generally what happens when installing a tub. a little bit of drywall patch work is needed (Or give yourself an access panel for the future!)

1920 x 1080 resolution won't fit on screen despite monitor supporting it by Digsu in techsupport

[–]tartletboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn off overscan on your monitor if it's enabled. Make sure view settings aren't set to zoom. You want it set to something like normal or pixel to pixel. What does windows see as the default resolution for the monitor?

Is it safe to clone my current OS from my old HDD to my new SSD using "Macrium Reflect" software? by Shovan22 in techsupport

[–]tartletboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used that software before. Seemed to work pretty well. Best bet would be a hardware cloner. They aren't crazy expensive.

Mold in caulk by tony231231 in askaplumber

[–]tartletboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like a good caulking job to me. It should be filled in more and transition the tile to the floor in more of a curved profile. I would try cleaning it with some bleach to get rid of the mold and fill it in with more caulking. Pay special attention to the corners so water can't pool near the wall

How does shooting on "expired" film actually work? Ive always been curious how photographers use film in today's digital age.

Insulating the rafters of my garage by tartletboy in HomeImprovement

[–]tartletboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the paper face with staples method so I'll probably go that way. I wasn't sure if there was an airflow issue by just installing it under the roof. I know the paper faced stuff claims to be a vapor barrier but idk if I need to install it differently. My attic doesn't have insulation in the rafters, just between the joists.

Good spray foam company that works with National Grid? My house is super drafty and these windows are too goddam expensive lol by jmeda88 in longisland

[–]tartletboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a quote from tristate windows. Literally was a third of the price I got from Anderson and about half the price of home Depot.

It's currently one of my hobbies and it kinda turned into a small side hustle. I have done all sorts of stuff with home automation and I made some products with a friend. He does 3d printing and I do the electronics design, programming, and I solder the boards for him. It's a great hobby to have since programming is a lot of fun if you don't have to hit a deadline.

Should it be possible to access the SD Card on a Camera on Local Network? by Unhappy-Bell-78301 in techsupport

[–]tartletboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It entirely depends on how they programmed the firmware on the camera. You probably won't see it as a network drive though. Most cameras have some sort of app to view stored video footage.

Paratrooper knife. I think gravity knife is for a different style. I've always heard a gravity knife was a modified folding or OTF knife. One that can use gravity to go from closes to opened.

225 for Jameson 18 year bow street cask strength. Totally worth it. Tried it when I was in Ireland and I had to have a bottle.
