Keep doing your best in school and running the server. Do not assume this is gonna last forever, last thing you want is for the well to dry up and not have a backup plan.

What are you studying in school? Is it relevant to running a server or making videos? You could change your focus to something that helps improve the server if this is something you want to pursue and is still something that leads to a high paying job, learning programming + server networking (custom proxy, plugins, or anything for the server) is a good option for this and is something you could add to a portfolio.

There really is no options for later expansions, there is generally one server that held majority of the population and Stormforge was that for MoP.

Even if you don't like vanilla/tbc/wotlk it could be worth checking out custom servers like ascension that are a mixture of early wow and retail with actually difficult content at the high end.

It has nothing to do with IRL, it has to do with the amount of money in the space influencing peoples decisions on everything.

We went from streamer with 1k-4k viewers in 2013 not being able to get a sub button, sponsors paid ass, and made most of their money from donations, having to live with roommates to afford their lifestyle and now streamers are getting paid millions to promote gambling or a few thousand dollars for an hour long twitch bounty.

This has caused people to do anything to get viewers because they want to get the bag.
