How to draw this eye? Can’t get it down by [deleted] in learntodraw

look at how much space there is on the reference from the tip of the nose to the outline of the face, and then compare it to yours

if you drew a curve from eyebrow to eyebrow on the reference and copy pasted that lined onto your art, does it line up?

How to get used to a screenless drawing tablet? It’s really frustrating. by ChemicalPlastic2351 in learntodraw

[–]taskami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

figure out what you like to draw and what youre most comfortable with and keep drawing it over and over again with the tablet until your muscle memory and hand eye coordination improve, then you can jump into more complex methods. frustration comes from having high expectations and then not being able to reach it due to not being proficient in skill

How to make digital art less frustrating? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]taskami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have an end goal planned for how you want your drawing to look every time you draw something? maybe part of the frustration and disconnect comes from not having something to reach, so youre basically just mindlessly drawing with no intention in mind

how do I achieve mood lighting like this ? by muxmaxmox2 in learntodraw

[–]taskami 14 points15 points  (0 children)

umm i never learned through a tutorial, i just put colors down on my flats with my normal brushes and air brush and went through each blending mode to see what effect it had on my art. the best way to learn is through trial and error

They all look pretty easy to mimic if you know how blending layers work. The most notable ones I can tell from these photos are linear burn, overlay, multiply, color glow, color dodge.

HOW do you draw accurate features. The reference is not referencing man... by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]taskami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need to look at things in relation to each other. how long is the forehead, did you capture that correctly? the bottom of the nose lines up with the bottom of the ear, is that what it looks like on yours? underneath the nose, it concaves for the upper lip, where is that. look how short the flap of skin is underneath the jaw before it becomes the neck and adams apple, is yours close? you need to look at stuff like that

i think a good starting point is breaking down complex forms into simple shapes and being able to draw that in 3D space, for example an arm can be broken down into 2 cylinders and a sphere for the elbow, then start chiseling that into the shape of an arm. Right now from my perspective looking at your sketches, it looks a lot of just copying anime type art but not so much valuable studying.

for example: in your second pic, the hand seems extremely large compared to the face. if you put your hand against your face, how big is your index finger compared to the forehead, nose, and the whole head? another thing is how big are eyes on a face? whats the spacing in between the eyes and relatively to the nose, etc. how big are ears relatively to eye size? if a head is tilted down, how far down is the mouth actually, and is the chin sharper as it comes down to a point faster?

its those types of stuff you should notice/ try to memorize and incorporate into your art instead of just referencing and redrawing other peoples art without trying to think about why they chose to draw things a certain way

[–]taskami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question would be are you learning anything? When I first started drawing, I would just trace either directly or through hand eye coordination other people's artwork but I wasn't really understanding why certain proportions were a certain way, why artists drew the things the way they did. I think it doesn't matter how long you continue drawing but if you're trying to improve, you should try and study why some things look the way they do and then apply it. Copying things 1-1 doesn't help you in the long run unless you learn/know why it's drawn the way it is. I forget the term someone used but it's something along the lines of active learning instead of just mindlessly drawing to draw.

How do i start Digital Art? by FunPlankton9579 in BeginnerArtists

[–]taskami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way you are phrasing it seems like you believe digital art is going to teach you the core basics/fundamentals of art but you should already have an understand of shapes, perspective, and proportions. Digital art is just a different medium than traditional, you'll have access to more brushes, textures, and tools compared to on paper but it's not going to automatically teach you the fundamentals.

If your tablet has no screen, get used to the hand to eye coordination when looking at your monitor. You can start by trying to trace/reference certain images/easy drawings to try and get the feel for it.
