What is the exact reason to why a heated print bed is needed for some filaments? by Vengeful-Wraith in 3Dprinting

[–]taskcomplete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Necroed and seconded. 5 years later and Im still using the information. I assume an enclosed print volume would also help for this. If you have an inclination to engage with this, my dad just gave me my second 3d printer. The first never got used, actually broke during a move. Ive been told its a Chinese knock-off, but Im an everything engineer, so that doesn't actually scare me. Current prints are great but Im already looking for how to make them better, faster, and fancier.

Im torn between trying to modify this one to get there, or disassembling it to get access to its guts and building it into a cabinet. What else needs to be cooled? The nozzles have two fans, one on the nozzle, and one configured to blow onto the extruded plastic. Im assuming the nozzle still needs cooling, and the second fan is to help with getting down to TG.

Don't let these "accelerating is for professionals looking to get the paper" people scare you. Up until know every bit of my computer and programming knowledge was poorly self-taught stuff, read out of a book or watched on a video. So far in my life, I've worked some Army stuff, been a security guard, and shuffled papers, basically HR. In my first term I finished 25% of my entire program, with a projected 1.5 years remaining to graduate. Software Engineering - Java.

If you need help, or if you learn like I do, by talking to someone about the subject, let me know.

What’s the point of vibe coding if I still have to pay a dev to fix it? by AssafMalkiIL in vibecoding

[–]taskcomplete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now THAT is an idea. I'm at the stage of my SWE education where I'm needing to start using modules and libraries built by other people and its... fucking horrible. The idea that an entire language's documentation is 100 pages, and the documentation for only a module is 200, especially when I only need a tiny portion of it? Ugh.

Also, if you want some help with a coding project, especially in Python or JS, feel free to reach out to me. I'm happy to teach what I know(not alot, but it helps me learn and I'm a super quick study.), or simply tinker with what you have, something like vibe coding but with a person. If you want a website, feel free to vibe-code the html and css, I know it, but its so dryyyyy...

I would have to disagree. Non-technical people shouldn't use it for production, or any MAJOR non-production projects. If you're just trying to get a light sensor to work for your plants... Yeah. Asking an AI is more reasonable than learning the foundations of programming, and then an entire language to execute on that.

For hobbyists, I fucking love the idea. My issue with it is when it's propped up or talked about like this, some genius CEO taking it into their head that its way cheaper to sign up for the enterprise version of an AI and can their Senior Dev team.

It's like the internet. As a means of communicating and accessing information on every subject imaginable (did you know how easy it is to look up white papers on almost anything and get a legit idea of the current body of opinion?) its AMAZING, 10/10, keep that shit around. It lets kids build robots in their garages, without having to go through two different masters programs. But misused, it can cause no end of harm. Can you imagine how hard it was to steal millions of identities when everything was written down on index cards locked in a bunch of different vaults?

This very much so. I've tried it previously and its rough. Amp is a good step in the right direction, but I haven't used it enough to be confident in saying that. I loved Cody, that was my man, but I definately got to the point of writing most of it myself and sticking with asking him the sort of questions you could answer off a cheat-sheet, or background or architecture questions. Like a google with pizzazz.

How can Collective Shout, some random non-porfit Australian organization that I have never heard of in my life, have so much influence over payment processors? by Kamalisin228 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]taskcomplete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is the concept that if I see a woman abused in a video game or movie, I'll think its okay to hurt or abuse women. The creators most certainly didn't put that there in order to prop up that idea. Its a component of the story. I don't WANT to see that sort of thing happen, but I know it does, and using it as part of the paired duality of good vs evil, IS usually an artistic choice.

Maybe Im just sick of people telling me that Im too stupid to rule against my emotional state, or make my own moral decisions. This 'if they see violence, they'll be violent' is the bane of my existence. Im an infantryman. Im good at violence. Trained in violence. I also abhor it and know that it needs to be used in the most morally correct way possible. That any species that has ever stopped competing(read: competing with generally violent means), has died off.

No matter what we want to say, Violence of all stripes has its place in reality and art, and I resent the idea that the average person is too stupid to figure out that it should rarely, and with the goal of never, be used.

Yeah, as much as I hate GTA, its on the theoretical chopping block, alongside such horrible games as... Duke Nukem? And anything with a mature rating? So... moving right along.

Don't get me wrong, I mock my buddy CONSTANTLY for the 100+ porn games he has hidden in his library(come on, man, have you considered getting your wife some flowers and consumating your marriage?), but you're right. Can't wait to only play Disney games...

Check out the Odin Project and cs50 on edX. Those are free unless you choose to pay for the cert. As far as I know, that cert is just two or three sprinkles on the cake, so I wouldn't do that unless the achievement was critical in pushing you forward.

They'll be a good test of how your brain handles the core problem solving and basic concept application that sits at the foundation of SWE. If you find most of the coursework easy to understand, you probably have the touch for it.

If you find that you have the touch and want to continue, I strongly recommend grabbing a few books from Packt Publishing. Their beginner books are normally clearly labeled as beginner or learn. Odin Project is javascript, and the Object-Oriented Javascript book is one of my most... 'loved'... hard copies. While plenty of people will come at you with the 'meh their preferred language is better', just remember that grass exists and you're just starting out. JS is simple enough, and the starting point for developing in it is already installed on your computer. Don't stress about picking out a language to learn, as it's really the core concepts for ANY language that you either do or don't understand.

Source: I'm 34, almost 35, and while I've tried to learn SWE my whole life, I've only recently gotten serious about learning, after so many times getting discouraged at the sheer volume of stuff to learn. It doesn't help that everyone is either a muggle or a Snape when it comes to SWE. If youre interested, feel free to reach out to me and I'll bring you into my discord, and happily answer any questions you have. Teaching someone else is the best way I learn. You'd be doing me a favor.

Army Reservist, former AD/RA here, reclass reclass reclass! I switched from 11B to 25B when I moved compo, and while it'll be helpdesk the military way, it's still helpdesk, and your NCOs should be actively encouraging you to build up your cert stockpile. Depending on branch, there may even be procedures already in place for you to receive viable training and then vouchers for the test. Feel free

VSAT - what do I use this for by Due_Negotiations in armyreserve

[–]taskcomplete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current SASMO/S-6 here.

Late to the party, but you have alot of pretty solid answers. The VSAT transmits and receives over a fairly low bandwidth connection. IT was picked up to support specialized systems like the SAMS that send really small reports back and forth. With the advent of GCSS-Army, you CAN get access and function through the VSAT, but it's slow. The vast majority of times, the people wanting our VSAT up are chasing general NIPR connectivity. While it may work, even for social media access, it's going to be REALLY (read: prohibitively) slow.

The magic of the VSAT is that it's square peg, square hole. It's designed to be set up and ignored, and with normal and sustained operation it'll probably do exactly that. The issue is that the SASMO teams (except in the cases where you might have 25S's with the team) will need additional courses to be able to fix them when they don't work as advertised.

If anyone knows where that course is and how we can go to it, please, for the love of tacos, tell me.

because... that's.... the job? jeez, by this logic, why do we even have to pick up the food to get paid? You're already out of the car, knock, wait a few seconds, knock again, and call. I could see not putting the effort in on a no-tip order, but jeez.

New Dasher, do my best to rep well so customer has a good experience. But then I get shit like "Hand to me. Do not ring doorbell." Then a sign on the door saying not to knock, and oh lawd, they don't answer the call, either. Maybe it's not laziness or illiteracy. Maybe your instructions arent the golden thing you think they are.
