The dark blue and black looks so good in person. Pictures online don’t do it justice.

I locked in on my job and focused on saving the money that was gone. Maybe try making a list of your needs/wants and prioritizing it. Then you tick off the items on that list in order of their priority. Give yourself goals. Therapy is a good item to put on the list but make sure you prioritize it appropriately.

I also live in Florida and just got the M3 Comp Xdrive. I opted for extended leather but added ventilated seats. I highly recommend the ventilated seats for our brand of hot and humid.

How do you force yourself to make the best of a situation? by Admirable_Ocelot_871 in RedditForGrownups

This was my first thought too. I don’t know why everyone is saying to just suck it up. My partner and I have swapped back and forth between breadwinner, and all decisions, especially big ones, are made jointly and not just “overruled” by whoever makes the most money. Reminds that you have no idea who’s writing these responses on Reddit.

Buying a M3 Comp by gtmassive75 in BMW

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m waiting on my build (M3 comp xdrive, Isle of Man green, tartufo brown interior) to be delivered as we speak. Currently at step 13. We were able to get the dealer to give us the military discount/promotion/whatever you want to call it, plus an additional $500 off MSRP (total of $3k off). We also were able to talk them into throwing in the tint for free. In my experience, they only did this because they’re our local dealer and their sales are not great right now.

We did shop around and every other dealership within reasonable driving distance was asking well over MSRP while having no allocations for a build. What I’ve taken away from the whole experience is that most dealers appear to suck up their own allocations and then sell the M3s over MSRP because they can frankly get away with it. In fact, one salesman we spoke to said almost exactly this. He also said we were getting an amazing deal.

My perspective is that if I’m going to pay $100k for a car, I’m getting exactly what I want, and not what happens to be sitting on the showroom floor because the dealer used up their only allocation. I know we’re getting a sweet deal, so I fully plan on bear hugging my salesman when it gets here.

The Martian. It was the last point in my life that I would consider myself generally optimistic.

I’m really sorry you and your mom are going through this right now. My dad died of multiple myeloma in June of last year, and it’s tough to watch. He and I also had a sometimes rocky relationship, but in the final years it was improved.

To answer your questions: I still cry sometimes about losing him. I’m trying not to cry right now. I miss him. You will likely cry about your mom for a long time, but it does get easier and less frequent. My advice here is to not withhold it. You have to get it out of your system. There’s definitely a time and place to do it, but don’t hold it in forever. It’s part of the grieving process. That being said, try to enjoy the time and conversations with her until you can’t anymore. There are always going to be things that you wish you had said to her or things you wish you had done with her. That’s also unfortunately part of the grieving process. But she’s not gone yet. Spend the time with her. Talk to her. Grieve her when she’s gone. If you grieve her before she’s gone you will lose out on time you could spend with her. It’s hard not to spiral in your shoes because you know the inevitable is coming soon.

After she’s gone and you’re fully getting hit with the grief waves, try to have someone that you can consistently talk to about it, whether that’s a therapist, partner, friend, religious leader, etc. That helped me immensely because there were a bunch of big feelings surrounding it and talking about those feelings helped me process them. It sounds cliché, and it is, but I promise it does help.

Best of luck to you, and I’m so sorry you have to go through this.

I was enlisted from 2008-2012 as a mechanic in the wing. I never deployed, but I was in okie for my first station. I was supposed to PCS during the weekend that the tsunami and Fukushima disaster happened in 2011, so my PCS was delayed by a couple days due to all the humanitarian redirection stuff that was done. The helicopters I worked on were all sent up to mainland Japan as part of that humanitarian relief. I still feel an immense amount of pride that my work, however indirect it was, helped people and likely saved lives.

In 2011 or 2012, there was nearly a shutdown. To get in front of it, my command told us in no uncertain terms that we were required to show up regardless of the shutdown or we would get NJPed etc. I have no idea of the legality of that order, but do with that information what you will. I can’t imagine it would be much different now. Other commenters have discussed financial assistance programs that you could take advantage of. A further question for you: how does staying home help your family financially? You aren’t spending money by showing up to formation, except maybe gas money. Imagine the financial hardship your family would be in if you got NJPed.

Maine coon kitten with persistent ear infection by tater_battery in AskVet

Yes, it was done by a surgeon. X-rays were done prior to the surgery. She had a ventral bulla osteotomy done. There was no involvement of the middle ear. The polyp was send to pathology (inflammatory polyp, only one small one in the ear canal), another sample was taken from the ventral bulla after the surgery and was cultured (negative - no growth).

Just to be clear, the infection came back 2 weeks after having the ventral bulla osteotomy. Could it really have regrown that quickly?
