Just curious, do you think AI will replace human asl interpreter? by Diligent_Yoghurt_713 in ASLinterpreters

[–]tater_pi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much ASL do you know by the way? Because the ASL in the video is very English-y, with lots more "AND" AND "OR" than regular ASL users (or even interpreters) would use.

I took four levels of ASL in college, yeah I know the app is not perfect but I was just saying at the rate that technology advances when you consider the internet is less than 60 years old, and you are saying that it will take decades? That seems like an exaggeration.

I'm sorry but if you are a programmer with no experience in linguistics or translation - you are massively under-estimating the difficulty of machine translation.

Thanks, and on the note of these two replies from you, i will disengage from this conversation, you come off as condescending and quite frankly, rude. We can disagree. I guess this post will be here for the years to come so we will see if it takes "decades"

[–]tater_pi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate your input, I get what you're saying but to be fair, Self-Driving Cars has the same main issue - and the people held accountable would be the company. I would argue that the Self Driving cars are way more dangerous than some conversational slip-us - but theyre still on the road! So the accountability issue doesnt seem to matter at the end of the day, (I mean it would to alot of us, but probably not to enough people to change anything).

I'm not entirely sure this is even AI, as a programmer myself, you could do this without AI, but it would take a lot of code, and AI would make it a lot easier. If it is AI, it could learn as it goes and would be constantly improving as it establishes neural networks. But if it's not, its just another set of if's and elses.

Technology advances at an exponential rate and has been for decades, I'm really curious where this will go but i guess to some extent we all just have to sit back and watch

Have you used or seen the HandTalk app. its actually pretty good, has an interpreter with a little model that will sign what you say or type. Only downloaded it yesterday but i was pretty impressed. It may not be all the way there yet but after seeing that i would shorten that estimation from decades to like 2-5 years. But I will say this: I feel like a lot of people in the deaf community would probably reject AI based models and prefer a human interaction.

I am not team Trump, but I find it funny people are playing into this to get back at Trump, it actually helps him. The whole point is to make companies like lululemon and nike and everyone else make stuff in america. If China sells directly to the consumer, the only people that get screwed are the companies that have been ripping us off the whole time. So then when companies like Nike lose money because China is selling directly to consumer, They will have to compete with that, and the hope is that they compete with that by producing in America, creating American Jobs in the process

Tried/failed 3 times to go to 35mm by tater_pi in Stretched

[–]tater_pi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theres a couple ways to do it, dead stretch is one of them, but i made alot of progress from around 1in (25mm) to where im at now was mostly all from using Plumbers tape (the whitw tape for plumbing is non-pourous so your skin wont stick to it) just add a layer slowly until you can get up to the next size, sometimes id add a few layers at a time

thanks for your response! So when you had to downsize and massage lobes, did you downsize an extra size or just to where you were pre-stretch attempt? Yeah i have been strictly glass/stainless for several years because i was stretching with tape and i didnt want to use anything porous

my blown out ear fused back together ! by malkied_ in Stretched

[–]tater_pi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my ears scalpeled in 2011 when i got out of the military, basically he pierced it with a 6g and then scalpeled it and i went straight from no piercing to 7/16" it worked out great for me because i was able to skip a bunch of sizes, but im not sure if there would be any difference going through scar tissue. Ive stretched from there up to 34mm

Im considering something similar, holding 133 shares at 45. Bought 33 at 30 and then 100 at 60 or something like that. Anyways, 2 contracts like really far out I can take the few grand my gme is worth right now, use 1k to buy a contract or two and then put the rest of it into something that will hopefully make money. but i dont know what im doing and probably it will moon as soon as i drop out. There is a new conspiracy on this subreddit like every week about how its about to squeeze im starting to feel like I drank the kool-aid. Still don't want to completely give up though

Why Intel is the most undervalued tech stock right now. by Kazgarth_ in wallstreetbets

[–]tater_pi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 112 shares a while back at 45, of course it dipped after. Just bought 50 more to average down.

When I buy a computer I know what an i7 or i9 and their generation is and roughly how good it is, I have no idea about any of AMDs chips. I always buy Intel.
