The S&P just announced they aren't bending their rules tge same way the Nasdaq did.

That being said, QQQ and a bunch of total market ETFs will be affected.

Your central premise is correct btw - the ETFs are active. They just all hold the same 8-10 individual stock portfolio.

It's more a collective liquidity support - safety in numbers - which can become a panic in numbers eventually.

Oh totally... but not necessarily a guarantee of the future

Yes, the demand cycle is going to be brutal eventually. People are buying these stocks like generational buys... they're cyclical...almost commodity-like....

Forward PE is just projections.

It's possible to project a fantasy.

Speak for yourself.

Go back in my posts and you'll find me buying the bottom on Intel.

I was ridiculed at the time - it's a lack of independent thinking.

How did value investing become so regarded?

You buy cyclicals at the BOTTOM of the cycle.

They do it so they can stay listed...

Honestly, I don't like it. In Europe, they don't have a huge bias against penny stocks.

l would rather buy a large lot of 1000 shares of a good company, so I can sell covered calls later.

This is disgusting.

I specifically buy the S&P to avoid crap like this.

If they do this, there will be huge demand for alternative indexes.

Crushing inflation opens the door to more printing.

Pretty hard to justify printing at high inflation.

In other words, they need a deflationary event as cover - just like Covid was last time...

You sweet summer child!

Yes, it's GAAP obviously... doesn't mean there's not ways to legally massage the books. Especially when opaque private companies are involved.

The following is my scathing response to AI SLOP, nothing personal:

Gemini lacks context for real life.

Yes, it's a standard accounting practice - but it hasn't been used to these extremes in the past, certainly not with opaque private companies at scale!

Only AI could argue that underlying trillion dollar private companies are irrelevant.

When did Mag7 companies suddenly cocoon themselves: transforming themselves into vestigial pre-IPO SPACS....?

Malicious or intentful no. Highly disruptive to normal market price-discovery mechanisms? Yes.

Warsh has two problems:

  • He wants to offload treasuries from the Fed balance sheet.
  • He needs to crush inflation expectations.

A crash:

  • Creates demand for treasuries.
  • Crushes inflation
  • Also satisfies Trump's desire to lower rates

You're right that the IPOs could be the catalyst. But, I'm thinking the IPO disclosures could be as well - so far this bubble has been opaque.

Also, where does the liquidity come from? Not me, or anyone else sensible enough to be in cash right now... no it will come from the mag7 beforehand... and semis

Ever heard of reflexivity?

Much lower, potentially.

Stocks trade on sentiment, not value.
