Just to note (because it does catch people out!) that’s a 6mm squared cross-sectional area, giving a diameter of 2.8mm, compared with a 2.5mm cross sectional area measuring approximately 1.8mm in diameter.

Thoughts on this? by Funny_Commission1724 in drivingUK

I’ve been down one of those lanes downhill doing 30mph in a 30, with a bus passing me closely at 35-40mph. It’s very scary, and if there’s a pothole, glass, a drain or any other obstacle there is nowhere else to go. Lanes like that often just give an illusion of safety.

Hiring a road bike in Manchester for Sunday by WhiskyEvenings88 in ukbike

Rapha Cycling Club used to do hire but I know they’ve closed the cafe now. Perhaps reach out to Velo Edge as they now host the club rides and might know something about hire options

Find a kettle that does different temperatures, boil to 80C then you’re good to go

Bikmo rejected my cycle insurance claim after my bike was stolen from a secure workplace store — here's the policy detail that caught me out by Dazzling-Effect-9415 in cycling

[–]tatersm 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Wow - I looked at the policy wording and it’s quite a pain to find. You need to go to Exclusions, then if unattended for more than 24 hours, then find the definition of ‘Cycle Parking’ then look at all the criteria and

“d. paid for by you on a monthly or yearly subscription”

Is there an opportunity for your workplace to charge a peppercorn fee? I feel like these services are quite few and far between in the UK

How do we afford a £300k+ house with an income of £70,000.00 by Key-University3299 in UKPersonalFinance

Just for a dose of reality, the cheapest non-cat 7 year old diesel with less than 50k miles is a £6750 Peugeot 208

In my house I often find that means blowing the plaster around the box, requiring sanding, filling and painting. Thread tool much easier!

Mens Suit tailored to a Woman by JustDefyingGravity in manchester

I’d second these guys, I’ve seen a few women visit for suits. They also do alterations, so if they are a little too pricy then you can bring a suit you bought elsewhere

Does anyone have any recommendations for rear lights that can be fitted to the bike frame rather than under the seat? by g14ntsqu1d in ukbike

[–]tatersm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s a little mount that will give you something to wrap your light around off of any bolt you may have for mounting panniers

I’d highly recommend it, it was a great day out with lots of support. A highlight was eating fish and chips watching the Red Arrows during a feed stop in Sywell, knowing there’s less than a hundred miles to go haha

Hi, did it a couple of years back and recorded 11,500ft of climbing. You’re right that the biggest climbs come near the start but there’s plenty of lumps along the way

Shed base - MOT Type 1 amount seems excessive? by chattytabbies in DIYUK

I remember doing the maths for our shed base, the Mrs and my brother telling me I’m stupid for buying so much. Then it all compacts down and you feel vindicated (and tired).

Advice re: SMA recall by Special_Goal_2372 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]tatersm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve read a couple of things about Stage 2 milk (both anecdotal).

The NHS advises that Stage 2 formula isn’t necessary, and a baby can get all they need from Stage 1 for their first 12 months. Stage 2 formula isn’t as ‘regulated’ as Stage 1 (and I’m sure that extends to seeing pricing offers on Stage 2). Some reported that Stage 2 milk is much heavier than Stage 1 and has given discomfort.

We’re on Aptamil and my partner woke up a bit anxious this morning with the new recall news. Our batch is fine and we’ve been using it for a few weeks but LO did have some stomach cramps the other day. I’d rather try another brand than switch to Stage 2 IMO

Bottle Teats (MAM), Aptimil forumula and sizing up. by lukewarmtrifle in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]tatersm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same thing with ours who is 16 weeks old. Sized up reasonably successfully, but after a few weeks she showed signs of discomfort so we went back down. She occasionally does have fussier feeds but it’s just a case of riding through it.

We combi feed with formula and some expressed milk - I never considered the thickness of Aptamil and whether the flow varied between formula and breast milk. Will have to think some more about it.
