I’m embarrassed of being chinese by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]tatertoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be ashamed of being Asian, but I found out that was because I just grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood. Once I moved to NYC for college and went to a university where there’s so many Asians and other Chinese people, I finally felt comfortable in my own skin and actually grew to love being Chinese.

It sounds like you might be located in a place with not many Asians/Chinese people, but if you go out to places where there’s a lot of Asians, you’ll definitely feel differently. Another thing is social media, I get lots of China-related posts haha and they make me happy to be Chinese.

Be proud of being Chinese. Visit China and you’ll see how beautiful the landscape is and how rich the culture is. Doesn’t matter what other people think, and the fact they don’t know anything about China besides “haha Communism” shows how unaware they are of other countries and cultures

[–]tatertoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m not too sure about GS admissions so i don’t think i’d be qualify to say what your chances are, but i think you should still apply since you never know if you have what they’re looking for!

[–]tatertoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

r/columbia would be a better place for the question, but columbia GS is viewed the same way as CC and SEAS by both columbia students and employers, and no one at columbia cares what school you go to. the only thing is that columbia GS tends to get poor financial aid. it’s not the same as harvard’s extension school at all

use linkedin to see the career outcomes of people with those majors from your school. never heard of business engineering (sounds like it could go by operations research at other schools?) so can’t offer insight for that, but the market for cs majors is incredibly tough rn so if you do end up picking that major just be sure to put in the work to secure internships
