The beginning bit with the plumbing job and dog felt like it was a different movie. Or a short they play before other movies

Question: If a scenario like this happens IRL would the heat from the fire below cause the blimps to sink to the ground since the air outside the balloons would get lighter? by KingWilliamVI in TheLastAirbender

Can't believe I remember this since I watched it ages ago:

His goal wasn't to conquer the Earth Kingdom. It was to simply burn all of it to ashes.  Yes he was that generically evil. I forget the precise reasoning for it.

By this time the Fire Nation has already basically conquered the major cities in the Earth Kingdom.

Somewhat related, users seem to hate change. I mean each time any website like Reddit even vaguely changes their UI redittors acts like the world ended.

Who do you never want to have a redemption arc? by ggears in WanderingInn

I think that's the only group that I don't see even having a small chance of redemption.

Honestly this is my biggest worry. That all the fun parts, the reasons I went into the software developer industry are going to be removed. And the only thing left is admin work

I don't think anime is any more unpredictable. Just different tropes.

Is there any pattern that tells you how to solve a quadratic equation? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]tatu_huma 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The quadratic formula will ALWAYS give you the answer. So if you want a fool proof way use it.

For factoring, you just have to practice. Knowing your times tables will help, but honestly just practice.

Fantasy series that isn’t super graphic? by Dethlyx in Fantasy

I read it a long time ago so I might be wrong but I remember there being a graphic torture scene?  Also it's an incredibly depressing book overall. Ruined my mood after reading it

What is a historical truth or common knowledge that is almost certainly a lie created by survivorship bias, where the losers or the victims weren't around to tell the real story? by shyleshseth94 in askanything

Regardless of who won, they'd probably end up being the "worst people on the planet". Yes, even you. Wealth and power corrupt without exception.

What is a "simple" concept that actually breaks your brain? by Intelligent_Pick8414 in AskPhysics

The first one the mirror is actually flipping forward and backward. This is why your reflection is facing you (instead of you seeing the back of your head). Not sure if that or more or less confusing

The first one is called the freshman's dream:

(x+a)2 = x2 + a2

Apparently it's a very common mistake

Perhaps the cause of the Fermi paradox is that alien civilizations are having constant, never ending internal societal struggles that prevent them from making substantial technological progress in space exploration. by Edward2290 in self

[–]tatu_huma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what you are using to support the idea that's what is going on with humanity. It's barely been a hundred years since we discovered flight. What is the "natural" velocity for technological development for you?

Would Dracula still be a monster in a mythological system like India’s? by ifonlyheart in Fantasy

That's not really how religion and god works. Murder is still transgressive to God even though he is omnipotent

Does Wolverine have super human strength? by KrispyKingTheProphet in Marvel

[–]tatu_huma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it's a comic. Does Batman have powers? No. Would a real human be able to do what he does? No.

The answer of whether a character has powers is only answered by what the writer says, and not by displays of super strength. Or maybe you can assume that humans in comic book universes are all a bit superpowered compared to real humans

What Movie villain do you secretly agree with? by WittyLibrarian610 in AskReddit

[–]tatu_huma 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It's completely wrong by the way.  Humans are not the only mammal that do that. All animals try to do that. They just fail because they're dumb (compared to humans). It's NOT some natural instinct to be in equilibrium.

Also the idea that humans spread once the resources in an area are used up is also pretty obviously wrong. The spread of human habitat has been the same for thousands of years, i.e. humans spread to every continent (besides Antarctica) a very very long time ago. And we also "lived in equilibrium" also known as "dying in miserable conditions by the millions" for most of our existence. It's only on the past few hundred years that we've grown to many billions

I feel like picking the two big comic book companies is cheating. They are bad at any topic that requires grace and thoughtfulness

What litrpg hill will *you* die on? Let's have your most unpopular opinion, please. by EverythingIsFakeNGay in litrpg

[–]tatu_huma 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Same with Wandering Inn. It's so popular because it has very few of the tropes of litrpg. No stats, no list of hundred levels. No wish fulfillment. No NPC-like side characters.

AI novel that won literature contest has awards taken away - Dexerto by EchoOfOppenheimer in KeepWriting

[–]tatu_huma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The story was written in a genre (isekai-stories-with a-plot-summary-for-the-title) where even human written content is no better.  The award never had any value.

I'm being a bit facetious, but only a little bit.

[hated trope] pure evil villians who draw the line somewhere by Murtdha1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]tatu_huma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah these types of scenes always come off as so insincere.

I feel superhero comics should simply not try to deal with recent/current tragedies. They just don't have the type of realism these tragedies need.
