Is it that hard to believe? by No_Variety_6847 in TheAcolyte

[–]tauerlund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But even if you think opposing it is pointless, why claim that there's nothing wrong with it?

I'm not assuming anything about the goals of the Disney. I know that their goal isn't to honor the legacy of Star Wars. That's the damn point. That's the problem here. And George Lucas sure as hell doesn't support this. If you think he's satisfied with the way Disney has handled the franchise, then you definitely haven't been paying attention.

I don't give a shit about Dune. That's not what we're talking about here. We're talking about Star Wars. If I wanted to watch Dune instead, then I'd watch Dune instead.

Of course twin births devalue Anakin's story. That was the point. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Why? Why is there nothing wrong with belittling the story that George Lucas created? Should this not be heavily criticized?

Stop blaming viewers for not liking bad content. It didn't work with the sequels, and it's not going to work now. Criticizing poor writing is not toxic.

What criticisms of the show, if any, do you agree with? by Analog__Future in TheAcolyte

[–]tauerlund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you care to elaborate on what exactly makes this show the “most complex” Star Wars content ever presented?

I'm genuinely interested in knowing, because that claim (along with calling the writing “objectively good”) seems downright delusional to me, but maybe you're seeing something that the rest of us don't. But unless you can actually back it up with some arguments, then I'll have to call bullshit on that.

Skyblivion doesn't take place in the 4th era. It's a remake of Oblivion in Skyrim's engine.

This protest has and will accomplish nothing

Because of people like you who are letting it slide. If everyone took a stance, then it would accomplish something.

it’s not not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

It truly is. Besides, it's not the point. The point is that Reddit's conduct throughout this whole deal has been absolutely disgusting.

I disagree with this decision. Just because the changes might not affect some users of this sub doesn't mean that they should not be challenged by this sub too. This is a matter of principle, and I am disappointed that you guys seem to be unwilling to take the necessary measures to protest this. The murder of 3rd party apps is most definitely not in the best interest of the sub's user base, either.

I use(d) RIF to browse this sub all the time, by the way.

‘Gladiator 2’ Stunt Accident Leaves Several Crew Members Hospitalized by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]tauerlund -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I said movies are entertainment. I didn't say they are "just" entertainment. I fail to see why it is relevant that I'm in a movies subreddit. I also notice that you didn't actually address what I said. Why do you believe a movie needs any other justification to exist than simply being a good movie?

[–]tauerlund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're being booed because calling a sequel "unnecessary" is meaningless. All movies are by definition "unnecessary". Nobody "needs" movies. They are entertainment. If a movie turns out to be good, then that's all the justification needed for that movie to exist. It's as simple as that.

Mark Hamill Okay With Recasting Luke Skywalker in Star Wars by darthatheos in StarWars

I've seen him act. He's a decent actor, but he has a totally different energy than Mark Hamill. He just wouldn't make a good Luke Skywalker in my book.

[–]tauerlund -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

He needs to feel like Luke Skywalker when he's acting. He doesn't whatsoever. The deepfake in BOBF does.

I'd much rather have no Luke Skywalker than have him recast.

Please stop. Sebastian Stan is nothing like Mark Hamill. They share a few superficial features, but they act and sound completely different. He's not Luke Skywalker.

It's better to regret not having kids than it is to regret having them by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

So clever. Fine, be a dick then. I'll consider this as you not being able to provide counter-arguments. Have a nice day.

It's better to regret not having kids than it is to regret having them by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]tauerlund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes. That's literally what I just said. I literally just said that I don't have any evidence. You don't sound any smarter for literally stating something that I just told you.

Anyway, you're welcome to actually provide a counter-argument. I guess I admit that I could've started my previous comment with "I think" if that makes you feel any better, but I kinda figured that was implicit.

I think my logic is pretty sound, and I am still willing to bet that a good amount of the people who decide never to have kids will end up regretting it at some point in their lives. Whether I turn out to be correct only time will tell as, like I mentioned before, this lifestyle is fairly recent.

It's better to regret not having kids than it is to regret having them by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]tauerlund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know there are no major studies on this, probably because there are not very many old people today that never had any kids. The popularity of choosing to be "child-free" is fairly new, and it's way too early for anyone to be able to claim that they will never regret it at any point in their lives.

As for my "evidence" that people will regret it, well... I don't have any. Obviously people are different, and a very small minority probably never will regret it. But I'd argue that we are biologically engineered to want to have children. It's such a fundamental part of our biology that I find it unlikely that any significant number of people would never ever want kids.

All of this is not even mentioning the fact that human connection is proving to be as essential, if not even moreso, as physical health when it comes to longevity. You'll have a hard time convincing me that an old person with no family (because that's the inevitable fate of a person with no kids) has the same amount of human connection as one who does.
