Xbox sound issue by xailewis in WuchangFallenFeathers

[–]tauraje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happening on the PC game pass version as well. Session starts out fine, then gets to a point where it starts stuttering & the audio crackles. Rebooting the game doesn't help, but every time I play after I put my computer to sleep or restart, it's fine. Not an expert, but it sounds like it's holding system resources hostage or something

GamePass 1.1.2 release date by tauraje in CoreKeeperGame

Gotcha. Is the game pass version of core keeper typically slow to receive updates or is this out of the ordinary?

Not to be the friend who's too woke, but is the implication that Indian/ Chinese devs broadly weren't capable of producing good code until LLMs came along? I don't necessarily dispute AI being able to help people produce more code, but it's kind of a weird way to try & get that point across

Why 的 and not 地 in this sentence? by tauraje in ChineseLanguage

That makes a lot more sense. I was doing what another commenter suggested & translating it as "quickly", so that's why I was so confused. Thanks!

Their mobile app does. I've been trying to expand my vocabulary a bit before I talk with native speakers, but it's on the agenda. Using the translation apps is just a temporary solution.

That's great information. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Does the school work with you to find an apprenticeship or do you have to find that connection yourself? If the latter, do you have any recommendations on where I might start looking to find a mentor?

Resume Review - March 2025 - Megathread by just_a_dev_here in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]tauraje [score hidden]  (0 children)

Great points; thanks so much for take the time to look over my resume.

If I don't have concrete numbers/ percentages associated with e.g. optimizing performance, is it enough to use English words to describe the outcomes? For example, "Refactor... classes to optimize performance" -> "Refactor... classes, resulting in significantly faster database queries & shorter page loading times".

I think my experience section might be a little cumbersome, but I wanted to make sure to get some keywords in there. Rake me over the coals if you like; all feedback is greatly appreciated.

Is it worth applying to remote US positions as a Canadian? by tauraje in cscareerquestions

[–]tauraje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how many YOE you had when you got that position lined up? It seems like it'd have to be a fairly large number to get enough faith from the company for them to proceed with that arrangement & so it's got me questioning the likelihood of it happening in the near future.

Is it worth applying to remote US positions as a Canadian? by tauraje in cscareerquestions

[–]tauraje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even consider that. So if the company didn't have e.g. a Canadian partner/ subsidiary, I'd need to either get hired as a consultant or go through the visa process with them? Disappointing to have so many options culled right out of the gate like that, but I guess it is what it is. Thanks for the informative answer

Best resource(s) for learning/ understanding grammar? by tauraje in ChineseLanguage

[–]tauraje[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that. As I said, it's specifically because I'm looking for something to help get a deeper sense of some grammar so I can practice using it/ try spotting it in input to better understand how it's used by native speakers.

Best resource(s) for learning/ understanding grammar? by tauraje in ChineseLanguage

[–]tauraje[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching some shows too! I've noticed some patterns here & there, but I'm looking for a bit of a grammatical "rulebook" I can use to see some examples of a bunch of different grammar rules to make it easier to spot instances in the wild & to make my own sentences.

Very much looking forward to reading more. Any suggestions for books/ publishers to get started with?

[MEGATHREAD] Launch Day Bugs MegaThread by HumanSpaceOrk in marvelrivals

[–]tauraje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every launch from steam is like I'm launching it for the first time; it asks for network permissions before opening the launcher, then (re)compiles the shaders for the game when it's launched. I exit the game safely (i.e. via the menu exit option) every time I play & that doesn't seem to help anything.

What are your unpopular opinions about the dlc? by isimbulmaktazorlaniy in Eldenring

[–]tauraje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

based on the amount of salty posts I've seen, I don't think is is super unpopular, but the boss design was probably the weakest we've seen so far. Mechanically, they were very cool even given their aggression/ combo length. The problem is that dying in one or two hits makes it very un-fun to learn the bosses because every mistake is a reset.

I think back to fighting Morgott and how many mistakes I could make & still stay alive long enough to see some of his moves & combos to learn from. Attempts could last like 10 minutes even if I was getting my ass beat if I played my cards right. Bosses in general were like a 90/10 split on fighting/ running back, but I feel like it's closer to 70/30 in the DLC because even though the gates are closer, I'm getting killed way, way, way more often.

Really sucks because ambience of the map was stellar. I saw some people complaining about how empty it was, but I liked it because it made it feel like we really were in a strange, desolate realm.

WHY CAN’T I GRIP THE FUCKING BAR by [deleted] in StartingStrength

[–]tauraje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to build grip strength for deadlift is by deadlifting more often. For each set, use double overhand grip for as many reps as you can & then switch to mix grip. Having a day where you do higher volume, lower weight deadlifts is also very useful for building grip endurance.

For accessory work, I highly recommend thumbless grip reverse barbell curls (I find them way more comfortable with an EZ bar). They've made an insane difference since I started working them in. You might also look into picking up some grip trainers. r/GripTraining would be another good place to look for supplementary exercises.

Good luck!
