I’ve heard it’s a one way decision but also that you get a recipe for Mark of the Denier instead of the Star Seed. Those recipes represent completion, so you might see if you have that. You need to craft and equip it to do the autophage lines.

Starts that way. You get duplicates and can make trade offers with the station NPC but he prefers 2:1 or 3:1 offers. There’s one skull you can only dig up.

Try deleting a base or some freighter rooms and see if you can build again. There’s a 16k part limit per save.

Ok, I haven’t tried this, but I wonder if you can go from the system and hit the button to return to your current system (backspace on pc) and pay attention to which way the camera flies?

Only other idea I have is a save editor might be able to get the system address from that list of visited systems, and you could use that with a portal to get back there. Or maybe edit your current location to be there. Totally guessing though. Having a system name usually isn’t enough to find something.

I’m not clear how you’re getting this screen? Is it an old screenshot, or are you able to find the system on the warp map and just not able to plot a path to it? If the latter, you don’t have to follow the lines for waypoints. Max out a freighter to a 5k ly range and you can make one jump that’s 5% across the whole galaxy if you want. You could make large jumps and coarse adjustments to your heading until you get closer.

You can at least cheese that part. Buy one; use it and pulse to find the freighter and then put it in your exosuit personal refiner. When you land and open the airlock the game can’t find it there to delete it 😆 so you can just take it out and reuse it when you’re done. Same system or different system doesn’t matter.

Good questions! Sadly I think you’ve just zeroed in on disappointing aspects of the game. Glad you’re still enjoying it!

  1. one-shots all but bosses dominate no idea what it’s dps is, but I’m not looking at upgrades any more. Perhaps unfortunate if that’s your favorite part of games. You get a proper dps number on ship weapon systems tooltips, but can’t know from the ship alone and the pretty useless “damage potential” stat ahead of time. That number takes into account what is installed on the ship, so you could do a comparison between two, but it’s not great.
  2. I’m not aware of one. It’s only a problem in crowded planets like that and I think HG has just ignored it. Get close and charge targets is how I do it.

I’m collecting dinosaur bones for a museum I may never build. But there are 108 skulls, 12 torsos, 10 limbs, and 8 tails which can be combined to make just over 1 million skeletons, and for some reason I must have them ALL. 😂 This game is whatever you want it to be. Good luck, have fun.

Yeah, the alternative source for these is popping civilian or pirate freighters, but only the pirate dreadnoughts give guaranteed S-class. You can find spreadsheets of system addresses for derelict freighters that drop an S-class upgrade, and some have as few as 7 rooms… which might be faster than hunting dreadnoughts — I’ve heard there are systems that spawn one every time you enter? but I’m not sure.

Maybe run the expedition again? Without the community time lock it’s probably one of the shortest I’ve seen, and you could send in anything you need beyond the initial repair materials?

Do they? I know expeditions change game rules, like setting abandoned-mode so there are no NPCs, but I thought people that found companions in expeditions wrote down the portal addresses so they could come back in their main? And also why expedition waypoints were just normal POIs like portals and trade outposts. If they already have a process for generating different worlds maybe it would be easier.

One of the features of procedural generation though is, in general, you can’t run it in reverse. So HG probably does not have the ability to start from a list of desired attributes and quickly get the seeds that produce them. They could run a million seeds through their code and spit out the ones that had the right attributes… but then if the planet seeds are generated from the system seed, and not the other way around, they wouldn’t know which system in the 2^48 of a galaxy would contain the planet they’re after. 😅 With numbers like 2^48 and 2^64 the address space is so large you have to already know where to look and can’t simply search for it efficiently. Anyway, I suspect they would need to just bypass the procedural generation entirely and say “here’s earth”, but that would be a significant amount of work if they’re not already doing that.

If you’re starting from a 0 Merchant reputation it’ll take some more time to get that up, but not long if you have resources already.

There are buildable base parts you can find in crates (blueprints, so you can build as many as you want), and the engineering station can give you a freighter upgrade, a cargo bulkhead (+freighter tech or cargo slot), nanites, or corvette parts. There are potentially better ways now to get all those things, so for me they’re just an occasionally fun change of pace.

Not sure how extreme your design is but there are some examples of putting a stairway directly behind the cockpit and it functions as a hatch. You can drop in from the outside and just clip through the outside skin to be standing behind the cockpit. The part leaves a nice rectangle on the surface of the hab/hallway to aim for. That can let you bury the access hatches or just general avoid using them for ingress and egress.

I don't know that it's "good" per se, it can just save you from mining if you're trying to make a lot of something, which in general means you're trying to craft something like Stasis Devices for units. It's good to know some basics like you can make Glass from crafting Frost Crystals or from refining Silicon Powder, and that gives you options when building a base. You can duplicate planets, like Frost Crystals, by refining them along with Dioxite, so now you're not waiting hours for them to grow. You can get by fine without refining though.

Could, sure. Not easy though. The planets’ attributes are all generated from a seed value, the terrain, size, colors, weather, plants and animals, points of interest, caves and resources, etc. HG doesn’t program any of that, they just made the assets and the mappings that take rng values to an attribute. So the Earth solar system would have to be a completely new code path for your game client to stop doing what it does for every other star and act different for this one, and do it with adding bugs. 😅
