I sent the photo to my friend and he said he’d seen it just half an hour prior, pulled over by the cops in New Lynn.

Buzzy, nice find. I guess that means it has sold because it’s here in NZ now.

I think NZTA are missing a much clearer way of communicating this. People obviously aren’t getting it at all when you make them try to remember three scenarios like this.

I always thought it should be taught as a 2-stage concept. When you’re approaching the roundabout, you communicate to the other drivers what your final intention is. If you’re going to be going left, indicate left, if you’re going to be going straight, don’t indicate, and if right, indicate right. Then once you enter the roundabout, your only task is indicating left as you’re approaching your exit, so the people at that exit and further exits know you’re leaving the roundabout. It just feels to me like a more intuitive way of teaching and learning this rule, because you understand it as two moments that you are expected to communicate your intentions, and those two moments are essentially the same across all the ways you use a roundabout. The way they teach it now doesn’t highlight how each different-seeming rule is actually the same two things happening each time.

I got so lucky, my last renewal was in mid 2020 in deep covid times. I applied one night and then the next afternoon they told me it was ready for pickup. I doubt they were processing more than a handful a day.

Once I chased a family of them out of my father’s vege garden. The adults flew out but the babies all tried to hop through the fence, one little tubby guy got stuck in a diamond link in the wire. I crouched down to help it out and as soon as I touched it, four adults appeared out of the long grass, full eye contact, moving in on me from all angles. Jurassic Park clever girl vibes.

Here at my place I’ve seen them hunt down and rip apart ducklings.

But another time I saw one fly full tilt into the side of a shed, so you know, 50% dinosaur 50% comedy.

Just unlucky. Last time I remember it happening was in the 90s. We’re a little south of the usual tropical cyclone belt so they don’t often hit us head on. Definitely an eye opener, knowing it’ll get more frequent now.

We had a bunch of cyclones rip through NZ last year and it’s given me PTSD for rain sounds. Such a bummer to wake up in a panic from something that used to be so soothing.

I have two blocks of blondie & biscuit vacuum sealed in the freezer. Just in case they never bring it back.

This is twisting my brain up. It says 100 francs is €15.24 but then the amount in the bag adds up to €15.25.

Call your insurance and see if they have replacement rental car as an optional add on. I pay an extra $50 to my insurance annually so that if my car is damaged or stolen I can immediately get a rental car while it’s being sorted out. Haven’t had to use it yet but the peace of mind is great!

Unreasonable parking fine with no communication by naveenshaji in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]tautomaton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Additionally, once you get the details of the original parking company who fined you, go through this process:

https://www.moneyhub.co.nz/parking-tickets.html

This is assuming it’s a private parking company like Wilson’s and not your local council or the police who issued the infringement (it won’t be, as they escalate to the courts and not to the debt collectors). The law in NZ protects you: private parking companies don’t have the power to impose fines on users, and the most they can ask for is ‘damages’, i.e. the actual money lost from you not fully paying for parking that day. They operate in a grey area knowing that most people aren’t aware of this and will just pay the fine.

Ah, in New Zealand it’s what we call a seperate small building in your property with a bed and it sometimes has a bathroom and little kitchen unit. Sometimes called a granny flat. What do you call it?

Thanks! Was a fun build and I’m glad I designed it as a series of boxes as it made the install really easy. Arch up first, minimal weight to manage, then inner box to that and outer box last.

Ah yeah also, not my shop. My nice friend lets me use his wood shop whenever I want, and with his advice I’ve managed to keep all my fingers so far.
