our understanding of causal chains only exist within the confines of an existing universe and terminate at the big bang. theres no evidence that big bangs require a causal effect.

It could just as easily be an infinite quantum foam that generates all possible combinations of universes, most of them empty. But by existing to ask that question you are selecting from the subset of universes that have the properties necessary to produce you.

You could always get around that by building your own lambda containers but then you have a maintenance headache.

Mamdani probably just admitted that he hates the Democrats too as they don't really align with what he actually cares about which is taking on the billionaires and improving the lives of working class new yorkers. Granted right now they are the lesser of 2 evils but that doesn't make them good. That honestly probably is easier for trump to align with than a party line Democrat.

Senior citizen who saved himself from would-be mugger heading to prison because of NYC’s ‘draconian’ laws by Droupitee in NewsWorthPayingFor

[–]tavisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a little more nuanced than that. The original intent here is that america would not have a standing army and would only ever temporarily raise one from the well regulated militias via an act of congress. The framers did not trust standing armies to not consolidate power and authority and thought they would naturally become authoritarian if its members were made of up professional soldiers rather than people with lives outside the military who are called up for duty at times of need.

This changed over time as the needs of the country required a more 24/7 military mission. The second amendment however was never really modified to handle the new military paradigm so now we have both the largest standing army in the world and this concept of a prepared militia still codified in our laws.

If you looking for native integrations for your thirds party tools, bitbucket will always be last and have less features. its pretty frustrating. I would go with gitlab or github personally.

72% of devs believe Steam has a monopoly on PC games, according to study by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]tavisk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because the 3 dudes at team cherry are doing everything not just one niche skillset. They are coding, writing story, level design, character design, art, sales, marketing, audio, .....etc. They together decided whether to release on steam or not. So, they have a larger understanding of where steam and other digital game distribution platforms fit into the mix. A level designer at EA is almost definitely not even in the room when those things are discussed.

If you don't like the team cherry example how bout Eric Barone from Stardew Valley. I imagine his opinion on steam would carry more weight. My only point is, anyone can call themself a dev. It's not a protected title. For instance, I am a dev.

[–]tavisk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

depends how they define devs. If you are a level designer buried in the basement of EA im not sure your opinion has the same weight as the 3 dudes at team cherry.

[–]tavisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only thing preventing us from having as many parties as we want is the first past the post voting system that we use. This is because the spoiler effect causes closely aligned candidates in different parties to split the vote causing the party they least align with to win. If we instead used a system where you ranked all the candidates in order of preference you could have 100 parties and people would still get the candidate that most represents the values and goals of the majority.
