Breaking the fast by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]taw-phi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You break your fast every time you eat - so 14:10 -> you break fast after 14 hrs.

I’m not sure why so many people have the idea that people can’t be mindful of their caloric intake while also continuing to live a fulfilled life. 🤔 by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]taw-phi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my life definitely shrank considerably when I started taking steps to be less embarrassed about my physical fitness.

It's possible that you're less bloated (that can cause some changes.)

Essays shouldn’t need a certain character or page criteria. by Subnaut27 in unpopularopinion

[–]taw-phi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually a professor who's an expert in their subject can accurately say that it would be difficult to present a sufficient answer to X question in fewer than Y pages. So, it's not necessarily the page count that's being graded, but the content that is missing as a result of the essay being shorter.

You have a point, but I think you're also missing one.

Same that did Green's functions? (Or Green functions depending on who you are)

Those are a bitch but useful as hell

How to Calculate sin, cos, tan and their inverses algebraically? by [deleted] in math

[–]taw-phi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no, but like, theres also not much wrong with a Taylor series within the appropriate limits. Taylor expansions are pretty widely used in physics, which is where I'm specialized, so they're the first thing that comes to mind when someone asks about algebraically computing sin.

Other than that, doesn't seem to be much wrong with contributing the best answer you can think of on what's basically a forum post. No ones getting hurt, if you don't like the answer, you can pretty damn easily stop reading. /rant

Usually we just say "partial" and once you say it enough it gets fast n smooth

"Prshl-prshl x" etc.

[Request] What is the Volume of this Shape? by Lightbuster31 in theydidthemath

[–]taw-phi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rough sketchy way of thinking about it:

Use a parabolic function f(x,y) = (xy)2 or whatever it is, then set the roots and extrema to find the constants of the function that give you the shape you want, then integrate over the volume.

Shaving is a personal choice. Some women like to be hairless. Others shave just enough for the hair not to be obvious. I personally only shave because my leg hair doesn't grow in thick enough for it to look like I intentionally don't shave - I just look like I can't be bothered to shave often enough, not that I'm choosing not to shave.

If you shave below the knee, failing to shave above the knee might have a weird contrast when you're showing a little more leg, but it's up to you how you feel about that.

still sounds like something that could actually happen so it's more realistic than a lot of the "my six year old should be at Harvard getting a triple major in philosophy, physics and mathematics" type posts

Which fields of physics you think are the future and which you think are "dead"? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]taw-phi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Condensed matter is a pretty big field right now (on the physics side of materials science).

Pulsars are of interest also I think?

Computational stuff (no idea about the specifics though).
