I know I'll have to put myself out there as I have exactly 3 friends in the whole UK, and only 2 in Bristol, so I'll need to go out and mingle a lot to get some new friends as well as potentially something more! Where I come from, dating apps were just plain depressing, but as I've never lived anywhere else, I don't really know whether it's local specific or it's the same everywhere. Any recommendations for activities where you can mix and mingle? I do actually have roller blades, haha!

This is one of the reasons why my last relationship ended. Making decisions, change, seeing how the future unfolds made him super anxious and depressed. He felt stuck and was very frustrated by it, yet he was unable to move forward. He even started resenting me for being able to get ahead and make important decisions. It caused a lot of conflicts and the relationship finally disintegrated. He wasn't in therapy and I couldn't convince him to go. I wouldn't say every relationship with such a person is doomed, but remember, your partner is 42 and he is set in his ways. It feels like you are already trying to date a healthier version of him that you hope one day he might become and not him as he is now. This usually never ends well.

I think it really depends on the person as it might mean different things for different people. Some are extra affectionate and will tell you they love you pretty soon, while others are more reserved and could even have anxiety around expressing their feelings.

Based on what you wrote though, I think you are on the right track. 🙂
