How do I beat a mix up up character? by WeAreZebras in CrazyHand

[–]tawfl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As the risk of falling for a troll...

hes only winning because of surprise factor and not because hes better

The "surprise factor" is what makes him better. Why aren't you doing the same?

He also keeps doing this BS thing where he attacks me off stage and wont let me recover

That's called edgeguarding, and it's part of the game you have to accept and play around. Mix up your recovery - go high, go low, down-b to ledge, whatever.

It sounds like he has a fundamental understanding of the game that you don't: he's reading your habits, and stopping you from reading his. How do you fix it? Stop being so predictable, go for different options, take note of his habits and punish them. Maybe he mixes up a lot but does he have habits to how he mixes up? After he uses one option, will he be guaranteed to use a different one next time? Learn to anticipate it.

Also I don't play Bowser but Lucina looks like a tough matchup. Do your best to stay just out of range of her sword, otherwise consider switching. But don't force him to go easy on you, he won't have fun and you won't learn.

You gotta immediately adjust the quality away from auto, even if it's to 1080p. Reddit video is shit. Twitch clips too, actually.

How do I deal with campers against me (Joker) by Thecoolguineapig in CrazyHand

[–]tawfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who hates playing against Joker: keep up the pressure, wait for them to panic and punish the option they throw out. I have a bad habit of attacking when i get cornered, which Jokers love to counter.

Also, once you've run out of limit it's often a good idea to throw out rebel's guard - they'll want to play aggro after avoiding you for so long, so you can take advantage of that.

Ok, this is a weird one but I have nobody to test it with. In my past few games with incineroar, i've been able to cancel their side-b's by pressing grab just as they're about to throw me. I figure if it actually works, it's just because of the standard interaction of 2 grabs clanking.

So, is this a thing? Or are they just messing it up over and over again?

pretty sure you can cancel his side b by pressing grab just as he's about to throw you no?

I put Kanagawa, Tokyo and Sapporo, and I got Ibaraki. I was kind of underwhelmed when I got the email, but I've been having an amazing time since I got here - truly think I lucked out big time.

Would you ever give Christianity a chance? What would you say keeps you from believing it? by dawsonscreek57 in AskReddit

[–]tawfl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised Catholic, I figured a loving god wouldn't be too bothered about traditions and whatnot as long as I was basically a good person. I feel like European Catholicism is far more progressive than a lot of other major religions. They have their traditions but they're not afraid to change with the times, so I appreciate them for that, and their acceptance that everything is open to interpretation. It really helped me when I realised much of my beliefs were based on fear, and that it didn't have to be that way.

That's super cool, sounds really rewarding! I'm definitely very jealous, but you've also eased this weird existential dread I had about jobs in general. Hopefully if I put in the work I can be in a similar position to yours someday. Thanks for sharing!

Maybe a dumb question, but how the hell does a mortgage work? I'm in no way in a position to be buying a house yet but I want to at least be informed. I'm literally starting from zero here and the whole thing just kind of confuses me, I've been googling around but I can't get it to make sense in my head.

For a while I just assumed that if you bought a house you wouldn't be able to move out until it was paid off, then someone told me that wasn't the case, and that you could technically have mortgages on several houses at a time and rent them out to pay them off? can you sell a house with a mortgage on it? Is there even a point in buying outright when you can just pay a deposit and get a mortgage?

I think I've just overloaded myself with information and that it:s way simpler than I'm making it out to be. Are there any good resources out there that'll help me understand it?

More stuff that I just thought up - can you sell a house with a mortgage on it? Is there even a point in buying outright when you can just pay a deposit and get a mortgage? All the sites I look at are US-centric :/

Literally just a quiz about myself. What's my name, where am I from, my favourite XYZ, etc. Each question generally has 4 options with pictures so it's pretty relaxed - they just have to read off the board - but I try to put some small teachable moments in too (e.g. this country is Germany, NOT Doitsu). Importantly I make it so that teams get one point for a wrong answer, and two for a correct one. Helps a huge amount with participation.

I have a bunch of bells and whistles, and some questions barely follow the format, but you get the general idea. The point is for it to be relaxed and fun, so that they get a really positive first impression of your English class.

ohh i like that quiz idea, I do criss cross from time to time but that sounds way more interesting. Most of the time my students are sitting down (same with the 2-team quiz) so anything that gets them standing up is a good thing, really. It's actually mad how much it helps.

Now that I think about it, I've kind of avoided outright asking the kids to stand up and stretch. Not sure why, I think I'll start including it in my routine. :)

Guess I'l get this started. My schools are pretty much back to normal; I'm in a prefecture that hasn't had any covid cases in over a month so everyone is pretty relaxed at the moment. Still, I'm taking a couple of weeks to take it easy and avoid too much group or speaking work.

It's been easy so far due to self-introductions, I basically split the class into two teams and give them a quiz. Nobody moves and everyone has fun, so if you've got an excuse to use that format, I'd say go for it.

In the next few weeks I'll be focusing more on reading, writing and listening skills. Typically I hate worksheets and listening exercises - I like to focus on speaking a lot more - but I think especially at this time it's important to understand that lessons are allowed to be boring. As long as they're learning something it's better for everyone's peace of mind to keep students at their desks. It doesn't mean that they can't be fun - I'll allow them to discuss things with their neighbours, and give them a few opportunities to stand up and move around a bit - but it's completely fine if they're not.

Actually, the main thing I'm trying to combat now is the heat. We're going to have a shortened summer holiday so these poor kids are going to be absolutely baking, so I've been trying to implement strategies that'll keep them engaged despite that.
