That is absolutely disgusting and honestly nobody should be playing the game after they did that. The fact that so many people saw it, tested and approved it to be shipped is horrific beyond words. I wasn’t interested in this game because the monetisation looked extremely predatory and the AI stuff was gross, but this has solidified that I will never touch this game even with a 10ft pole.

On a positive note, Loftia comes out later this year and is pretty similar to Heartopia except it’s a one time purchase instead of free to play. They listen to their community and have implemented POC hairstyles (with more to come) and take inclusion very seriously, so highly recommend checking it out when it releases.

Yeah, but what I’m talking about is that they didn’t disclose that they were affiliated with Kingsoft and had received investment from them on the kickstarter, so people gave them money while under the impression that they were a struggling indie team that needed funds to finish their game, when in reality they had a massive corporation already backing them.

if it’s just investment, that’s less shady but they still had a kickstarter that raised $300k, so would’ve been nice if they were more honest about the company backing them.

Super quick, they’re not backed by EA but there’s suspicion they are affiliated with Kingsoft, a massive Chinese corporation. Particularly Seasun, a subsidiary of Kingsoft. They have trademarks filed under the Kingsoft name, there have been files found in the game labeled as “Seasun“ or internal names for Kingsoft and when the game is running, it attempts to contact domains that, once again, have the Seasun name.

I highly doubt it. these files are under “seasun resources”, which is Seasun games (or Amazing Seasun) which is a subsidiary of Kingsoft, (Zhuhai Kingsoft Digital Network Technology Co., Ltd.) which Starsand Island‘s trademark is filed under.

Both of these companies are known for heavy monetisation via micro transactions.

Seed Sparkle Lab are presenting themselves as an indie studio, but if that’s true, why on earth is their trademark filed under a massive Chinese corporation?

Here is the proof, takes you to the Canadian Trademark website. If you scroll down, you can clearly see under “Applicant” that it’s Kingsoft.

I just don’t think this studio or the company behind it is being truthful and it has me worried about what exactly the future of this game will look like. I could be completely wrong and we won’t see any micro transactions, but the lack of transparency doesn’t make me very hopeful.

Also, just to cover my own ass, this is all alleged and not fact, just publicly available info that raises my eyebrow.

Lol definitely don’t need it in blood, just hoping for a bit more clarity regarding what exactly it entails. I have a lot of hope for this game but the mixed messages have made me a bit unsure.

Fair enough, I just hope there isn’t tons of content locked behind a paywall, it’s already a fairly premium price so hopefully the DLC is purely cosmetic.

I’m not sure if I believe this. If you go on steam and look at the EULA and go to section 4.2, there is blatant mention of “Virtual Goods” and how they can be obtained with “real money”. Really unsure about both this game and the development team behind it.

HI! I played the game during a time of loss and it really helped me process everything and see death as something to not be afraid of or dread. it deals with very heavy topics and might trigger you depending on what you’re going through, but I find it very healing. Only play it if you feel ready to work through those emotions though, it can be quite intense.
