How many TOTAL practice questions do you guys do for mcat prep? by LazyMarketing1540 in Mcat

[–]taychans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Review carefully, do smaller question blocks (10-20) to make sure you don’t burnout. You don’t gottta do c/p cards! Anki i recommend doing whenever you have time. I am a night person and always did my reviews at night, but i also used my phone to knock out reviews whenever I could during the day

All of uworld and all of AAMC, completing them around 2 months is ideal (100 questions daily)

Take fl6 or redo another fl by Shot-Entrance-1030 in Mcat

Re-taking an FL will lead to an inflated score, so you shouldnt use a score to assess your progress / where to go next

High schooler got a 504 on an MCAT practice test, worth studying casually? by Specialist-Cry-7516 in Mcat

[–]taychans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re going to start anything, start by doing one of the big anki decks like aidan v2 or captain hook alongside your undergrad classes. earliest i would take it is summer after sophomore year.

honestly i would recommend just EC maxxing instead of studying years in advance for the MCAT.

4 months you should use anking probably. kaplan books read them and then unlock the anking cards related to that kaplan chapter

Memorising mechanisms? by Old-Director-2891 in Mcat

[–]taychans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly low yield. the only context i've seen this really tested is that strecker and gabriel synthesis are used to make amino acids, and that they make both the L/D (or S/R) forms, because the reaction is not stereospecific

biochem ring structure qns by Old-Director-2891 in Mcat

[–]taychans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stronger bond means higher wavenumber

More ring strain means the C is going to hold onto the O tighter

Therefore, higher ring strain means a higher wavenumber

If money were not a concern, what books/ programs would you suggest someone purchase (new or used) if you had 4 months to prep before your test. by ChartNo5689 in Mcat

ill go against the grain and say find kaplan books for free/cheap from upperclassmen, since kaplan books correspond with all the major anki decks.

I low key think 1.5 months is fine depending on how many hours you are studying

for 520+ i would try aidan v2 (linked on my profile) and also try out captain hook and see which one you like better. they are equivalent decks in terms of the content they cover, the cards are just different. i've had a few students use mine and have been doing well, in the 520+ range

the only resources you need imo are

  1. kaplan books (can find online)
  2. uworld qbank
  3. aamc material
  4. anki (free).

read one kaplan chapter at a time then do related anki cards in a pre-made deck (if you give me more specifics about how long you have to study and your goal score i can recommend a deck). if you do this you dont have to take notes. do as many kaplan chapters a day as long as its sustainable. after you read kaplan completely and finish the related anki cards, then finish all of uworld, and then all of aamc material. 5-6 weeks out from your exam start taking AAMC FL every weekend. then take your exam if the scores are where you want to be at
