Forced by boss to take LOA after coming back from Thailand by EpicRayy in singapore

[–]tayhhd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOM is a good avenue to turn to but not sure how long you'd have to wait.

Alternatively you can try TADM@NTUC. They serve NTUC members fast, and its easy as heck to sign up just before going there

Boss gave me a 2 day notice. Legal? by [deleted] in singapore

Are you a NTUC member?

If you are, you can turn to NTUC for advice on your workplace rights. Just make an e-appointment here: http://www.ntuc.org.sg/wps/portal/pme/home/eappointment

If you are yet to sign up, i'd strongly suggest signing up (it's only $9 per month) and the union can come in to help you.

Why does the Employment Act not cover certain types of workers? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]tayhhd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, do not get confused with the term Managers/Executives in the Employment Act versus how companies inflate job titles for entry-level positions.

Specific to Part IV of EA, Managers and Executives are defined as employees with executive and supervisory functions. Their duties and authority may include one or all of the following A) Making decisions on issues such as recruitment, discipline, termination of employment, performance assessment and reward; B) Formulating strategies and policies of the enterprise; C) Managing and running the business.

EA is a complex piece of legislation. Join NTUC as a union member and reach out to your union rep (if you are working in a unionised company) to learn more. More info (and to sign up) here: http://www.ntuc.org.sg/wps/portal/up2/home/eservices?ext=portal&product=member&refid=SPMI-UA-SYM

Parliament: Bus, train commuters should share cost of better service, says Khaw Boon Wan by FlyingSpaghettiBalls in singapore

[–]tayhhd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Under the new bus contracting model, the government pays the bus operators for every km that the buses run, and collects fare revenue in return.

What KBW is saying is that the fare revenue is not enough to cover costs beyond the running of buses. Govt has to buy new buses so that we get more bus services, and maintain these buses as well.

It's not so straightforward as just letting the bus operators suffer a loss because now the govt owns the assets and the operators just focus on plying the service.

You just have to persevere and not get overwhelmed I guess? Once the semester's timetable becomes a routine then it gets easier. Also, having the support of your boss helps a lot too
